Chicago Bears vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Free Gambling Prediction & Week 5 Preview

Bears vs Jaguars NFL Football Spread/Handicapping

The Bears are in good really shape after beating Dallas rather easily on Monday night.  They are currently tied for the lead in the NFC North and their next 4 games are very winnable.  Perhaps none more so than this week’s trip to Jacksonville.

Chicago

It is the week before their bye so hopefully their focus will be in tact. Even if it isn’t they should still be able to handle the Jaguars, who might be the worst team in the league.

Bears QB Jay Cutler has got to be one of the most enigmatic players in the NFL.  He has a fantastic arm and when he is on he can make a slightly better than average offense look pretty darn good.  It helps when running back Matt Forte is healthy but even without him they can be fine.  Michael Bush might be the best backup running back in the league.  Forte is probable for Sunday but if they get up early they might nurse him.

I imagine that public opinion could not be higher on the Bears right now.  They made a statement on Monday night at Dallas and I am actually surprised the number on this one is not higher.  The Bears have the third best rushing defense in the league and are perfectly suited to give the Jags fits.  As long as this stays under 7 I think there is very good value on Chicago.

Jacksonville

The Jags are one of the worst teams in the league.  It is simple, they just don’t score enough points – ranked last in the NFL at 15.5ppg.  Rushing the ball they are OK with Maurice Jones Drew but their passing game is paltry and showing few signs of improving dramatically.  On the defensive side of the ball they are below average. They also have no discernible home advantage.

QB Blaine Gabbert is not very good.  Yes I admit he is not blessed with great talent surrounding him but I also think he plays a little too tight to avoid mistakes.  They invested a top pick in receiver Justin Blackmon but through 4 games he has only 10 receptions.  Right now their leading threat is Cecil Shorts, yes that Cecil Shorts from the powerful Mount Union program.  The only good thing for Jacksonville is that MJD basically showed no rust from missing training camp.

Picking against the Jags last week hosting Cincinnati was a no brainer (for some reason JAX was  actually the favourite).  This week feels very similar with the Bears very likely to win going away.  Until such time as the Jags can develop a passing game I think you have to fade.  They just have no catch up ability.

Spread Pick:  Chicago -4.5
O/U Pick:  Under
