Headline: Cards Look to Bounce Back into Win Column Versus Unflattering Bills in Week 6

The Arizona Cardinals finally lost their first game last week in rather embarrassing fashion on National Television but still sit atop the NFC West. Their challenge this week – stop the somewhat balanced attack of the Buffalo Bills to go 5-1 on the season.

The Bills certainly look ripe for the picking – their defense has been awful this year and the offense has been inconsistent to say the least.

The Buffalo Bills, off a 45-3 loss at the hand of the San Francisco 49ers will take another stab at an NFC West opponent when they travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals. How bad have the Bills been? They have given up 90 points in their last six quarters of action – Insane! How can a team dream of winning with numbers like that?

Buffalo enters Sunday’s contest relatively healthy for once this year. Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller are 100% by all accounts but you wouldn’t know it by their last couple of games.

The running game has been fine – 5th in the NFL and averaging 144.20 yards per game largely because of some explosive games in the first three weeks of the season. The problem is that the team can’t establish the run when they are playing from behind! Their goal this week has to be to get out to a lead and let the runners do their thing – Ryan Fitzpatrick and the 26th ranked passing game sure aren’t doing their part!

Ugh – Buffalo’s defense has been an embarrassment this year – Mario Williams has been invisible – he has a boo-boo on his wrist! The Bills give up a whopping 35.20 points per game – good for 31st in the league, they are 30th against the run surrendering 171.80 yards per game and they are 24th versus the pass. Is it any wonder they are 2-3?

The Arizona Cardinals have perhaps the most issues of any 4-1 team I can remember. The offensive line was completely exposed in Week 5, the running game is in shambles with both Beanie Wells and Ryan Williams both on IR and the passing game still hasn’t found a way to get the uber-talented Larry Fitzgerald involved. 4-1 is still 4-1 however and with the Bills coming to town, 5-1 is a distinct possibility. The Cardinals have been nothing special on offense – AT ALL. They are the 25th ranked passing team in the league and they own the second worst rushing offense in the NFL. The key appears to be the offensive line – when they are playing well, the team does just enough – when they are playing badly, teams like the woeful Rams look like contenders!

Arizona’s defense has been good this year but the numbers suggest they aren’t quite as elite as they make out to be. They rank 18th against the pass and 14th versus the run and yet they give up just 15.60 points per game – good for fifth in the NFL. It may very well speak to the Cards’ level of competition this year!

Betting Prediction

  •  The total has gone OVER in 7 of Buffalo’s last 8 games
  •  The total has gone OVER in 5 of Buffalo’s last 6 games when playing Arizona
  •  Buffalo is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing Arizona
  •  The total has gone OVER in 9 of Buffalo’s last 12 games on the road
  •  Arizona is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home
  •  Arizona is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games
  •  The total has gone OVER in 5 of Arizona’s last 6 games when playing Buffalo
  •  The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Arizona’s last 5 games

The Arizona Cardinals have been sensational at home going back to last season but I can’t help but think that they are overachieving this season. Sure Buffalo’s defense has been abysmal but the Bills will likely score some points on offense. Buffalo has the best two players in this game – Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller. I think they ride these two to victory in a minor upset. Take Mario Williams to finally show up and for the Bills to steal one on the road.

Pick: Buffalo Bills +5
