NFL Division Preview – NFC East

In our quest to be the ONLINE LEADER in NFL Gambling & NFL Handicapping information we’re way out ahead of the rest with our 2010 Divisional Previews for all 8 NFL divisions.

We will be covering the entire off season for each team and giving you a preview of the upcoming 2010 season with updates from now through kickoff of Week 1 of the NFL 2010/2011 Season.

The NFC East may prove to be one of the most intriguing divisions in football once again. Dallas is clearly the best all around team in the division but is prone to let downs particularly in the playoffs, the Giants appear to be a team in decline, Philadelphia lost its leader and Washington finally made some decent off season moves.

The NFL East is up for grabs only if the Cowboys fail to live up to their expectations.

Dallas Cowboys: +125

The Dallas Cowboys have problems at running back but their problem is a good one. With Felix Jones, Marion Barber and Tashard Choice in the backfield, there may not be enough touches to go around. The Boys should be extra motivated this year –  they maybe have their best chance to make the Super Bowl and the game just happens to be in their building.

Dallas added to their 2nd ranked offense from last year by drafting Dez Bryant. Bryant, Miles Austin and Jason Whitten are as formidable a receiving corp. as there is in the NFL. The defense is also very good. DeMarcus Ware is an absolute beast.

Dallas should win the division this year and is one of two or three teams that are a legitimate pre season Super Bowl favorite.

New York Giants: +260

It is hard to believe that it was just a few short years ago that the New York Giants won the Super Bowl. Since then, Eli Manning has struggled and the running game has largely been disappointing. Once considered the class of the division, they appear to be a shadow of their former selves.

Added to a stagnant running game is a passing game that is void of playmakers. Dominic Hixon was lost for the season, leaving Steve Smith and Kevin Boss as the only legitimate receiving threats. The defense is in transition and even if they stop bickering, they are still a middle of the pack squad.

The New York Giants might have yet another off-year. Offensively, they don`t seem to have the depth and the overall talent to compete with the elite. 2nd place in the division would be a success, first appears to be out of reach.

Philadelphia Eagles: +270

The Philadelphia Eagles are the Wild card in the NFC East. They will either be great or they will flop. Kevin Kolb takes over at quarterback and will certainly have weapons at his disposal. DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Brent Celek are all a year older and ready to take their status to elite levels. LeSean McCoy takes over full time duties in the Eagles backfield. It is definitely a transition year for the Eagles and if they can get over growing pains, psychological losses to the Dallas Cowboys, a defense that is void of legitimate playmakers and if they can get away from throwing the ball 68% of the time, they could surprise.

The Eagles are the NFC East dark horse. They could finish first and they could finish last in the division. Second place sounds about right but at +270, they might be worth a look.

Washington Redskins: +550

The Washington Redskins actually made some smart moves that will actually improve their team. Coach Mike Shanahan brings with him a wealth of experience and a winning culture while Donovan McNabb brings near Hall of Fame numbers in to play quarterback for the quarterback poor Skins. This is a team that scored 12 or fewer points 11 times last year, a number that will surely improve. A geriatric backfield could be a problem.

The Skins will improve this year but so should the other teams in their division. A .500 record is attainable, but finishing anything higher than third is a pipe dream.

The NFC East is a three horse race. The Giants seem like a poor bet and the Cowboys are rightful favorites. If you are looking to bet on an underdog, take a look at the Philadelphia Eagles who should be competitive yet again.

The Texans’  running game did little to improve itself (no runner on the Texans eclipsed 450 yards last season) but newly drafted Ben Tate and a healthy Steve Slaton will hopefully give the offense something that they can depend on.
