NFL Divisional Previews – 2012 AFC East Betting Breakdown

The Patriots are, once again, the big favorites to win the AFC East and while the Jets, Dolphins, and Bills have the talent to, maybe, make the playoffs unseating the Pats as division champs is very unlikely.

AFC East Team Pages

Buffalo
Miami
New England
N.Y. Jets

New England Patriots

The Patriots are not only favored to win the AL East, but they also have the 2nd best odds to win the Super Bowl. Tom Brady has another solid weapon in Brandon Lloyd and he along with Wes Welker and TE Rob Gronkowski give NE a great passing attack. BenJarvus Green-Ellis is gone so RB’s Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen will man the backfield. The offense has not been the problem for the Pats in the last few years, but their D has. However, they had a solid draft taking DE Chandler Jones and ILB Donta Hightower in the first round of the draft. Still, the secondary is a concern, but who can outgun the Pats?

Odds To Win AFC East -350
Odds To Win Super Bowl 13-2

Patriots AFC East Prediction – I see the Pats easily running away with the AFC East this season.

New York Jets

Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow? Bringing in Tebow may have been a good idea, but now there is a QB controversy in New York. With LaDanian Tomlinson retired Shonn Greene is now the featured back and TE Dustin Keller and WR Santonio Holmes lead a decent receiving corps. The once dominant New York defense is again and while their pass defense should be solid their run defense is a concern. DE Quinton Coples was a solid first round pick, but the Jets lack chemistry and I think Rex Ryan is in for a long season.

Odds To Win AFC East +600
Odds To Win Super Bowl 28-1

Jets AFC East Prediction – The Jets will be decent and may battle for a playoff spot, but just like last season I see them hovering around .500.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Buffalo Bills

Odds To Win AFC East +700
Odds To Win Super Bowl 50-1

The Bills have high hopes this season since they landed prized free agent LB Mario Williams and they had a great draft. RB Fred Perry is back and healthy and he and CJ Spiller give Buffalo a good backfield. WR Steve Johnson is emerging as a start in the league and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has to bounce back from his rough 2nd half of last season. If he struggles again Vince Young has another chance to revive his career. If Williams and first round pick DB Stephon Gilmore can improve upon an iffy defense the Bills may surprise some teams this season.

Bills AFC South Prediction – The Bills will be better than last year and they will not have another 2nd half collapse. Winning the division will not happen, but they may be in the mix for an AFC Wild Card.

Miami Dolphins

Odds To Win AFC South +1200
Odds To Win Super Bowl 75-1

The Dolphins have a QB issue heading into the season with a 3-way battle between Matt Moore, David Garrard, and rookie Ryan Tannehill. However, whoever is under center will not have WR Brandon Lloyd, who is now in New England. Can Reggie Bush have another 1,000-yard rushing season? Basically, the offense in Miami is a big question mark. On defense the Fish were solid against the run, but weak against the pass. I see that happening again, as teams with legit passing attacks will torch them.

Dolphins AFC East Prediction – The Dolphins have a lot of issues heading into the season and I think they are heading for a terrible season, but at least they will get a high draft pick.
