While some Super Bowl matchups in recent years have appeared to be mismatches on paper, this one looks like one of the most even games you’ll ever see. If you are looking to bet on the 2011 Superbowl this year, you’ll have plenty of great chances. The stadium will be rocking in Arlington this coming Sunday, and football fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the kickoff.

Green Bay

The Green Bay Packers went on the road and beat Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Chicago to get to Super Bowl 45. The path wasn’t easy at all, and their difficult road to the Super Bowl may well help them in this huge game. The games don’t come any bigger than this one, so we’ll see if this team can continue to rise to the challenge.

Aaron Rodgers is the clear leader of this Packers offense. Rodgers was outstanding during the regular season, and he has been a star in the playoffs. He had the single best performance of the postseason thus far against Atlanta, when he threw for 366 yards and notched a passer rating of 136.8. James Starks has stepped in and given this Packers offense a nice boost in the running game. Green Bay is averaging 24.2 points per game this year. This is a pass-first offense and they definitely have the weapons on the outside to get the job done. The Steelers defense will have their hands full with this unit.

The Packers were solid on offense this year, but it was really their defense that led the way. Green Bay’s defense held up through many injuries, and they ended the year as the fifth ranked defense overall. The Packers are second in points per game allowed at just 15 points per contest. Guys like Clay Matthews and A.J. Hawk have really stepped up in the absence of some of their other play makers, and this defense hasn’t missed a beat.

Pittsburgh

If you are looking to bet on the 2011 Superbowl you’ve probably noticed by now that the Steelers are starting to become a frequent participant in the big game. This is their third appearance in the last six Super Bowls. They have won both of their other two appearances, and if they win again, the word dynasty might start creeping into the conversation.

The Steelers offense has had trouble running the football in recent years, but Rashard Mendenhall has given this team a real presence in the backfield this season. The Steelers average 120 yards per game on the ground, and I fully expect them to try to run it often in this game. Ben Roethlisberger has proven to be a clutch performer at the quarterback spot, and the Steelers have a variety of weapons on the outside. Mike Wallace averages 21 yards per reception, while Hines Ward and Heath Miller are both reliable on the short routes.

The Steelers defense was the best in the NFL this year. The front seven are absolutely terrific both against the run and rushing the passer. The cornerbacks are solid and they have the best defensive play maker in the NFL in Troy Polamalu at the safety position. The Steelers allowed just 62.8 yards per game on the ground this year, which was easily the best in the league. Opponents averaged just 14.5 points per game against this Pittsburgh defense this season. This is one of the better defenses the NFL has seen in several years.

The Pick:

When you go to bet on the 2011 Superbowl I really think you have to consider the experience factor in this game. Pittsburgh has been here before and they have proven they can win the title. Green Bay is terrific and I expect this game to go right down to the wire, which is why I think taking three points with the Steelers is a wise move.
