Maybe World Series odds distracted me? For whatever reason, I got cocky last week, picking nothing but dogs. Not one of ’em hit. Time for redemption. Try this Week 8 parlay and you won’t be sorry.

RAVENS (-3) over BRONCOS

This isn’t just another example of someone disrespecting Denver’s NFL odds and maintaining that the Broncos are “pretenders.” At this point, we know they aren’t. Their O-line protects Kyle Orton well and opens up lanes for Knowshon Moreno; the pass rush has been phenomenal. But the Broncos simply enter a tough situation in Week 8. The Ravens are playing at home after a bye week and have lost three straight games by six points or less. They’re hungry. The key to Baltimore’s success should be Ray Rice. The Broncos have shut down every featured back they’ve faced this season but they allow the third-most receptions and fourth-most receiving yards to running backs in 2009, so they may not have an answer for Rice in the passing game. Look for a rested, angry Ravens team to edge Denver. By all means, bet under the total (as we’re supposed to do with Phillies vs Yankees baseball picks, apparently).

EAGLES (+1) over GIANTS

It probably feels strange to bet against the Giants after two straight losses; they’re too good to lose three straight, right? NFL Picks: Parlay Of The Week Well, unfortunately for Giants fans, New York simply draws another difficult matchup this week. Eli Manning has a pedestrian 12:10 touchdown-to-interception ratio in 10 career starts against the Eagles. He also didn’t respond well to pressure from the Saints and Cardinals over his last two games, completing just 48 per cent of his passes and turning over the ball five times. The uber-aggressive Eagles could give him fits this week. Donovan McNabb, who has 20 touchdown passes versus five picks in 16 career games against the Giants, should take advantage of New York’s banged-up secondary and take numerous shots downfield to deep threats DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin. Pick the Eagles.

CARDINALS (-10) over PANTHERS

Nothing about the 10-point spread scares me this week. The Cardinals have the perfect makeup to neutralize the Panthers’ strengths and funnel them into doing what they do poorly: pass. Arizona leads the NFL in run defense, allowing 67.5 yards per game, so it’s better equipped than any other team to handle DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. If the Panthers are forced to pass, look out; Jake Delhomme leads the NFL with 14 interceptions. Carolina does have the league’s top-ranked pass defense on paper but faced Washington, Tampa Bay and Buffalo, so we have to take that stat with a large grain of salt – bigger than the biggest salt lick at Breeders Cup betting.

One reply on “NFL Picks: Parlay Of The Week”

If the Eagles have gone from a 3 point favorite to a 1 point dog I love that pick.

I also like the Ravens -3 as the pressure of being undefeated is getting too much for the Broncos to handle.

Don’t ask me why but I see the Cardinals tripping a bit this week against the Panthers. Coming off a big win last week they are primed for a close one. They will win, but I do not think they will cover the 10.
