As last week’s NFL betting effort showed, we’ve hit a funny patch in the season – one in which we must expect the unexpected, as teams tend to get caught with their pants down looking past weak opponents. One such example is included in our Week 11 parlay.

GIANTS (-6.5) over FALCONS

Remember when the Giants and Falcons were a combined 9-1 through their first five games? Ha! Bettors have gone from hyping their Super Bowl odds from wondering if they’ll make the playoffs. The Falcons have dropped three of four and the Giants have lost four straight. I think the Giants have a better shot to rebound in Week 11 for several reasons. For one, the book is totally out on Matt Ryan, who is stuck in a sophomore slump. When teams pressure him, he gets jittery in the pocket and hurries his throws. In his last four games, he’s thrown eight interceptions versus five touchdown passes. The Giants will almost certainly blitz early and often. The Falcons also struggle to stop the run and the Giants run the ball well; Brandon Jacobs is improving, averaging 5.1 yards per carry in his last four games. New York also has the home crowd support and will be well rested after a bye.

There’s a lot to like about the Giants in this sports betting matchup.

RAIDERS (+9.5) over BENGALS

Don’t mistake this pick for me refusing to believe in the Bengals. After going 4-0 against Pittsburgh and Baltimore, they’re clearly legit. However, last week’s win in Pittsburgh put the Bengals on a major emotional high, as they took sole possession of first place in the AFC North. With that tough matchup behind them, they draw Oakland, Cleveland and Detroit in consecutive weeks; a cupcake stretch like that could make any team mentally soft. I think the Bengals get caught napping this week, especially since (a) The Raiders pass defense is actually decent and (b) Cincy will have more trouble than normal closing the game out with Cedric Benson’s hip hurting. NFL Picks: Parlay Of The WeekThe Bengals probably eke out a win here but I don’t see them covering on the road. The Bengals play better when they’re not expected to win.

They’re 0-3 against the spread as favorites this season.

EAGLES (-3) over BEARS

Some sharps will throw down cash on the Bears at the sportsbook, thinking Chicago must have some fight left and realizing that Jay Cutler plays much better at home. The Eagles, however, are a terrible matchup for the Bears. Chicago’s O-line has been porous of late and the Eagles rank second in the NFL in sacks; Jay Cutler leads the NFL with 17 interceptions and the Eagles have picked off the third-most passes.

The Bears’ secondary is also prone to allowing the big play and there’s arguably no bigger big-play threat in the NFL than DeSean Jackson. Go with Philly.

There are quite a few people on the Raiders today as the Bengals are facing a definate trap game. 9 1/2 points is quite a few considering that the game is in Oakland. Raiders cover, but lose by 4.
