The AFC playoff picture is becoming muddier every week and in the middle of the cloudy picture is two teams that meet in San Diego Sunday.

The Cincinnati Bengals who have lost two of three games but still control the AFC North and the San Diego Chargers who inpressively beat Kansas City last week to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
The Cincinnati Benglas had the bye last week and it couldn’t have come at a better time. LB Rey Maualuga and DT Devon Still will return to the lineup to add to a defense that has been terrific all season long.

The Bengals scored twice on defense and special teams in Week 11 and are the #3 rated overall D in the game. Geno Atkins is still out but there is no doubt that Cincinnati is by far the better team on the defensive side of the ball in this one.
The problem with Cincinnati has been the Quarterback play of the inconsistent Andy Dalton. When on, he can look like one of the best in the game but when he is off he can cost his team games. Dalton went 13-of-27 for 93 yards, three TDs and two INTs last time out in a win – sketchy numbers in the win.
Dalton still has one of the best receivers in the game at his disposal (AJ Green who had just two catches for seven yards in their last game) and a more-than-adequate running game with Giovanni Bernard and Benjarvus Green-Ellis.

Simply put – the Bengals offense should be better than they are. The defense is why they are 7-4.
The San Diego Chargers are a tad difficult to figure out right now. They beat the good teams and lose to the bad teams for some reason. Philip Rivbers certainly isn’t the problem – he has had a rebound season and looks reborn under Coach Mike McCoy. Rivers leads the league in completion percentage (70.8) while throwing for 22 touchdowns and eight picks.
Keenan Allen looks like the most impressive of the rookie receiving class, Ryan matthews has found some form and Danny Woodhead looks like the piece that Rivers has been missing since Darren Sproles left town.
San Diego put up 41 points on a stellar KC defense last week at Arrowhead – this offense is no joke! They are the #2 overall offense in the game and can certainly put up some points as shown last week.
San Diego’s defense hasn’t quite responded ranking 27th in the league with an average of 276 yards allowed while picking off only six passes. Overall this team is near the bottom in overall defense.
The Chargers have a vulnerable Bengals coming to town – hopes are they can create a few more turnovers and get into ther head of Andy Dalton.

Under is 21-6 in CIN last 27 games in December.
Under is 10-3-1 in CIN last 14 vs. AFC.
CIN are 13-6-1 ATS in their last 20 games overall.
Over is 7-1-2 in the last 10 meetings.
The Benglas last two road losses have come in overtime – in Miami and in Baltimore. But the fact remains that Cincinnati’s is just not playing up to its potential. They are going to have to score a ton to keep up this week – not sure they can.
Off a character building win last week, the Chargers keep their slim playoff hopes alive and deal the Bengals another disappointing loss.
