Both the Giants and the Ravens were expected to be serious contenders this season but if a late season slump by both is any indication of where these teams are heading into the playoffs, it could be a short post season stay for both!

The New York Giants were beaten in absolutely every aspect of the game last week in Atlanta – defensively they were miserable and offensively they just couldn’t get anything done. The good news – they will likely get Ahmad Bradshaw back to help take some pressure off Eli Manning. The bad news – they still don’t look great as their season hinges on winning both of their tough matchups down the stretch.

New York comes into Sunday’s game owning the league’s 9th ranked passing game and the 15th best rushing attack. But both aspects of the offense have gone south as of late. Eli is forcing the ball and throwing more than his share of picks and the running game is having a hard time staying healthy as the team struggles finding an offensive identity. The Giants are still potent however – despite a bagel last week the Giants are 6th in the NFL in scoring – 26.64 points per game.

For those of you that have been waiting for the Giants defense to round into form and resemble the talent-latent, overwhelming form of their Super Bowl winning team of last year, I truly feel for you – this unit continues to flounder as an average squad with top-end talent. The G-Men are a disappointing 28th against the pass and 22nd versus the run – yuk!

The Baltimore Ravens have already qualified for the playoffs but their recent play shows that there is definitely some work to do ahead of the impending post season. Playoff seeding is on the line – if this team does not snap out of their funk their post season stay will definitely be a very short one.

The Ravens come into Sunday’s important clash struggling offensively. They currently own the league’s 14th ranked passing game and the NFL’s 22nd ranked running game. Joe Flacco has completed 59.1 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while being sacked 34 times. Ray Rice is averaging 4.5 yards per carry with nine touchdowns and he has 55 catches out of the backfield. Anquan Boldin has 58 catches and four touchdowns, Dennis Pitta has 57 catches, and Torrey Smith has 44 catches – OK numbers but far from the elite stats that we all expected from this team. Defensively, the Ravens have been very disappointing – injuries can be blamed for that! But Ray Lewis is rumoured to be coming back to the lineup this week to provide a huge boost to this team. Currently the Raves are 22nd against the pass and un unfathomable 26th versus the run. Baltimore gives up an average of 21.93 points per game – good for 13th in the NFL.

Betting Prediction:

A few trends to consider:

• The total has gone UNDER in 8 of the NY Giants last 9 games on the road
• The total has gone UNDER in 5 of the NY Giants last 6 games
• NY Giants are 14-6 SU in their last 20 games
• NY Giants are 8-4 SU in their last 12 games on the road
• Baltimore is 16-2 SU in its last 18 games at home
• The total has gone OVER in 6 of Baltimore’s last 7 games at home
• Baltimore is 16-7 SU in its last 23 games
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Baltimore’s last 6 games

Have we not seen this script before with the New York Giants? It seems that they only show up when their backs are against the wall. The only thing that would make this team better is if Tom Coughlin’s job was on the line! The Giants have a knack of showing up for the big games – I have a feeling they do it again! Baltimore’s slump continues as the Giants start their annual ramp up for the playoffs!

Pick: New York Giants -1
