Baltimore Ravens Odds to win Super Bowl XLVII from Bookmaker: +2,600

Why can the Baltimore Ravens win the 2014 Lombardi Trophy? The easiest answer follows: Well, they did it last year, so this team certainly knows how to win. It isn’t always that simple though, and the Ravens have made a ton of roster changes since last year.

The last team to repeat as Super Bowl Champions was the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005.

Ray Lewis and Ed Reed were the defensive leaders for the 2013 Super Bowl Champs, but they are now gone. Lewis is retired and Reed moved over to the Houston Texans. While it would be easy to discount the Ravens defense as being unable to lead the team to another Super Bowl, bettors shouldn’t forget how good the defensive line is. Haloti Ngata is arguably the best defensive tackle in the AFC, and Terrance Cody has been great as well.

Elvis Dumervil was a big pickup for the Ravens, and he should help this team continue to get pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Joe Flacco stole the show last year in the postseason, and because of it he was paid off with a record setting contract in the offseason. Flacco has his money and contract, and now it is up to him to prove he can be an elite quarterback moving forward.

If he plays anything like he did in the postseason, the Ravens have a guy to build their franchise around. Don’t forget that Ray Rice is probably the most versatile running back in the NFL. Rice can run it 25 times a game or catch 8 or 10 passes out of the backfield each game. The Ravens need to plug holes on the offensive line, but this offense has a very nice nucleus to work with. The Ravens know how to play smash mouth football and that is what wins games in January and February. Baltimore will have a very difficult schedule this year, but the defending champs will be expected to get back to the postseason.

Once they are there, we know that this team will use last year’s experience as a major confidence booster.

There are two big keys for the Ravens this year. Can Joe Flacco play like one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks once again? Can the Ravens find some play makers at linebacker to shore up the defensive holes?

If you believe the answers to these questions are yes, then there is plenty of value on the Ravens to win this year’s Super Bowl.
