The Falcons are sixth in the league in scoring – 27 points per game – they have been led by MVP candidate Matt Ryan and the Falcons third ranked passing attack. Matt Ryan has been solid completing 67.5 percent of his passes with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Tony Gonzalez has 64 catches and six touchdowns, Roddy White has 62 catches and four touchdowns, and Julio Jones has 47 catches and five touchdowns. The passing game will be the key on Sunday – Atlanta’s 28th ranked rushing attack will have a tough time against Tampa’s #1 run defense!
Defensively Atlanta is allowing 19.3 points per game, good for 6th best in the NFL, 130.5 rushing yards (26th in the league), and 216.3 passing yards (10th in the league), with 11 interceptions and 24 sacks. They have been better than advertised this season and are formidable for once!
Tampa Bay beat the Carolina Panthers last week for their fourth win in a row. They are playing at a very high level on both sides of the ball at the moment and are now staring at a playoff position that was thought of as unthinkable a month ago.
They are 4th in the NFL in scoring – 28.70 points per game, they own the 14th ranked passing game and the 9th ranked rushing offense. Josh Freeman has completed 56.4 percent of his passes with 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions.[soliloquy id=”82219″]
Doug Martin has reached the 1,000 yard mark averaging 5.1 yards per carry with seven catches while catching 27 passes out of the backfield with another touchdown. Vincent Jackson has 42 catches and seven touchdowns, Mike Williams has 34 catches and five touchdowns, and Dallas Clark has 27 catches and three touchdowns including the game winner last week against Carolina.
The Buccaneers defense allows 23 points per game (17th in the NFL), a league best 81.8 rushing yards, and 312.6 passing yards (dead last in the league) with 15 interceptions and 17 sacks. They are certainly vulnerable through the air and that is where the Falcons excel.
