Seattle

The story coming out of last week’s game was the injury to Redskins QB RGIII but let’s remember that it was Seattle’s ability to rally after a slow start that kept him out there in the first place.  If the Skins had built a bigger lead and Seattle wasn’t storming back it would have been easy to rest him.

To rally like they did, on the road, with a rookie QB at the helm was very impressive to me…RGIII or no,  RB Marshawn Lynch was in full “Beast” mode against Washington and there is no reason to think he can not have similar success on Sunday.

QB Russell Wilson was good in terms of avoiding mistakes and making a few plays with his feet but I think he may need to take a few more chances this week.

Let WR Sidney Rice try and win some jump balls.  The most amazing thing is Wilson’s best play might have been the block he threw on Lynch’s TD run…

A meaningless TD late could have spoiled the party but as it was the Seahawks covered with ease.  They are not the animal they are on the road that they are at home but they have covered their last three including the playoff game last week.

This line keeps creeping down.  Is it possible they might be in favourite territory by game time or is this setting up for something?

Atlanta

Usually locking up the top spot in your conference comes with a certain measure of respect, not so for these Atlanta Falcons.   [soliloquy id=”82219″] In fact I think popular perception has them 4th out of 4 remaingin NFC playoff teams still alive in terms of representing the conference in the Super Bowl.

Times they are a changin’…If the Falcons are going to advance I think it is going to be due to offensive supremacy.

They have had trouble rushing the football this season but RB Michael Turner can be a pounder if they need him to be.  In the passing game they have a nice trio of weapons in Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez.

The key will be whether Matty Ice can perform.  He is much better at home than on the road but he will be facing the league’s best defense after all…

There is a reason Atlanta isn’t getting much respect – they haven’t earned it.  Last year they exited the playoffs meekly and even though they might have exorcised that demon by shutting out the Giants a few weeks back many are unconvinced.

I count myself among them.

All the momentum is with their opponents.
