Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks Preview

On Sunday in a NFC West match up where first place in the division is at stake the Seattle Seahawks (3-2) host the Arizona Cardinals (3-2). NFL betting lines have Seattle as 5.5-point favorites in this game with a total of 40.5.

The Seahawks have yet to lose at home this season (0-2) and the Cardinals are only 1-2 on the road. Seattle is looking to open 3-0 at home for the first time since 2005.

The Seahawks racked up 353 yards last week against Chicago and their running game showed some life with 111 rushing yards. They will likely improve upon that number this Sunday since the Cardinals have had major troubles defending the run giving up an average of 140.8 rushing yards per game, which is 4th worst in the league.

The Cardinals had a bye week and that is a great thing for new rookie starter Max Hall. The rookie played decent in his first career start a couple weeks back going 17/27 for 168 yards with 1 INT and he will be facing a weak Seattle pass defense that is giving up just over 290 passing yards per game. Arizona’s offense will also get back the WR duo of Steve Breaston and Early Doucet for this game.

The Cardinals have won 4 straight against the Seahawks including their last 2 in Seattle, but that was with Kurt Warner under center.

This season the Cardinals are 2-3 ATS and the Seahawks are 3-2 ATS. A couple trends point to Seattle covering the spread in this game, as they are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and the Cardinals are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 away games. Football betting

In their last games the Cardinals beat the New Orleans Saints 30-20 and the Seahawks beat the Chicago Bears 23-20.

Seattle and their 21st passing offense is led by QB Matt Hasselbeck, who played well in the win over Chicago last week with 242 yards with 1 TD and 0 INT. The Cardinals have not only struggled to defend the run, but the pass as well ranking 26th in opponents’ passing yards per game. They did give up 279 yards passing and 2 TD to Drew Brees in their last game against the Saints, but they also had 3 picks. Arizona will have to get to Hasselbeck, but that will not be easy since the Seattle offense line has played well as of late and this season the Cardinals only have 8 sacks.

The RB duo of Justin Forsett and Marshawn Lynch will be tough to take down by a weak Arizona rushing defense. Forsett had a good game against Chicago with 67 yards averaging a legit 6.7 yards per carry, but Lynch only averaged 2.6 yards per carry in his fist game for Seattle. Chicago has a great rushing defense and Seattle had a good game rushing the ball and this Sunday facing Arizona they will pick up a lot of yards on the ground.

Max Hall may have to win this game with his arm since the Cardinals only rank 29th in the league in rushing yards per game. Not only that, but Seattle has been stellar against the run this season, so RB’s Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells will struggle in this game. Hall may be pressured all game long, as the Arizona offensive line has given up 19 sacks this season and Seattle has 17 sacks.

The Cardinals have had the Seahawks’ number for the last few years, but that will end this Sunday. Seattle’s defense will play well and Hall will not have time to find his targets and the Seahawks will move the ball on offense on the ground and in the air. Seattle will easily win this game and cover the 5.5-point spread.

Betting Trends

Arizona is 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against teams with a winning record, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win, and has an Over record of 4-0 in their last 4 games.
Seattle is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games as a home favorite, 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games as a home favorite of 3.5-10, and has an Over record of 3-1-1 in their last 5 games.
The home team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 games between these 2 teams.

Pick: Seahawks -5.5
