The Saints have been in the news for all the wrong reasons this offseason and they have to be ready to get on the field and play some football.

Arizona is looking to take that next step and be a playoff team in 2012.

The Cardinals started the 2011 season with a 1-6 record, but a strong finish got the team to an even 8-8 for the year. The big question in a game like this is always who will get the playing time. It appears Kevin Kolb and John Skelton will both see a little bit of action in this one. These two are locked in a tight battle at the quarterback spot.

Expect to see more of rookie Ryan Lindley than anyone else. Chris Wells and Ryan Williams are the teams top two runners, but they’ll both miss this game with injuries. LaRod Stephens-Howling will likely get quite a few carries. Defensively, look for the first unit to play a couple series.

The Cardinals are much better defensively than most people give them credit for being. Look for this Arizona defense to give opposing offenses lots of trouble in 2012.

New Orleans has spent the entire offseason talking about the bounty penalties and the Drew Brees Contract talks.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Saints will be missing several guys for at least a portion of the year, but they are very glad to have Brees in the fold once again. Coach Joe Vitt isn’t saying much at all about his quarterback rotation in this one, but many expect Brees to play one series or two. Chase Daniel and Luke McCown should get quite a few snaps under center.

While most people like to watch the offense, checking out the Saints defense in this one might be even more important. With Gregg Williams gone and Steve Spagnuolo in, it will be interesting to see what this revamped Saints defense looks like.

New Orleans has quite a bit of depth on the offensive side.

In addition, the Saints may well be more motivated than your average team right now. Look for New Orleans to want to win and get the season started the right way.
