San Francisco 49ers vs. New York Jets Preview

The 49ers (2-1) were off to a great start before being beaten soundly last week in Minnesota when their offense sputtered.

In their last games the Jets beat the Miami Dolphins 23-20 in OT while the 49ers lost to the Minnesota Vikings 24-13.

On the season both teams are 2-1 ATS and the 49ers have an Over/Under record of 1-1-1 and the Jets have an Over/Under record of 2-1.

The Jets’ pass defense has been decent this season, but how will they fare without Revis? Big question. Alex Smith has a slew of receiving options and they will test the Jets’ secondary.

One of the main reasons the 49ers lost last week is that Frank Gore struggled and the 49ers only rushed for 89 yards after amassing 334 yards on the ground in their first 2 games. However, there is a good chance San Francisco will run the ball well in this game, as the Jets run defense has really struggled this season and only ranks 28th in the league.

Mark Sanchez passed for over 300 yards in the win over the Dolphins, but he was picked off twice. WR Santonio Holmes has proved he is not over the hill with 16 catches for 243 yards averaging 15.2 yards per carry and he and Sanchez will be facing a 49ers pass defense that is mediocre ranking 13th in the league. Last season the 49ers had the best rushing defense in the NFL and while they have been decent this season ranking 8th they allowed the Vikings to rush for 146 yards last week. Shonn Greene has not proved he can be a legit #1 RB and this season he is only ranking 2.8 yards per carry.

Luckily for the 49ers’ defense star LB Patrick Willis will play in this game after leaving the Vikings’ game with an injury.

In some betting trends for this non-conference match up the 49ers are 6-2 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, 16-5-1 ATS in their last 22 games overall, and they have an Under record of 3-1-1 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record.

The Jets are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games vs. a team with a winning road record and they have an Over record of 5-1 in their last 6 home games.

Jason’s Pick: I think the Jets will struggle on D without Revis and Gore and the 49ers will rush for a ton of yards. This game will not be a close one, as the 49ers will easily win and cover the spread.
