2015 Titans Preview & NFL Football Future Lines & Pick

2015 Tennessee Titans Season Predictions

For a 2-14 team in 2014, the Tennessee Titans fans have a lot of optimism heading into the 2015  NFL season. That has a lot to do with their draft. The Titans received the overall number 2 pick and drafted Marcus Mariota out of Oregon to lead the way this season.

After dropping their final 10 games of the 2014 season, it’s foolish to think this team can immediately turn the ship around. However, for the first time in quite some time, the fans and the organization have something to look forward to. Building the right parts around Mariota will be a key for the future.

If the Titans haven’t hit rock bottom, they are certainly on the door step of it. Finishing dead last in the AFC South, the Titans players played through empty seats, blowouts, and just simply miserable football.

Tennessee ranked 29th offensively with only 303.7 yards per game and ranked 27th overall in defense with 373 yards allowed.

Their main problem came with points per game. The Titans scored only 15.9 points (30th) to the 27.4 they allowed (29th).

Hoping to improve on those numbers, the quarterback situation is clear; Marcus Mariota is the guy. The Titans tried to develop LSU product Zach Mettenberger, but that never panned out as he was unable to move the ball at all. He’ll likely be the back up to Mariota this season. Fighting him for that backup role will be Charlie Whitehurst. He finished the season as a starter for Tennessee, but has never really shown consistency.

At the running back spot, Bishop Sankey and Dexter McCluster who will likely split time. Tennessee rushed for just 90.4 yards a game last season (26th). The Titans also drafted rookie David Cobb who could give both players a run for their spot. While they don’t have a standout rusher, they at least have the depth.

Out wide, Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter will lead the way. It’s tough evaluate their performances or expected performances because they haven’t had a QB that could get the ball to them, especially down field. Their best target would be TE Delanie Waker. In 2014 Walker had 63 catches for 890 yards, which easily led the team.

As far as the defense is concerned, the Titans brought in Dick Lebeau to coordinate. Lebeau will be calling the shots and has proven his schemes to work in the past. Tennessee ranked 27th overall defensively which is abysmal. It obviously didn’t help that their offense wouldn’t stay on the field long, leaving them tired, but still. They typically allowed the opposition to run right over them.

2015 Tennessee Titans Season Prediction:

Marcus Mariota has the potential to be a star in the NFL. However, stardom takes a lot of time, patience, and a little help.

This year won’t be any fun for Tennessee. They will need to wait for Mariota to develop himself and continue to put the necessary pieces around him.

Expect them to battle with Jacksonville for last in the division, but the future is still bright with Mariota calling the shots.
