Things were the same old story in 2014 as they fired head coach Dennis Allen in the first half of the season and finished 3-13.

Jack Del Rio is now the man with the headset in Oakland and while they are still a ways away from competing in arguably the toughest division in football, he has hired the right people around him to get Oakland going in the right direction.

Derek Carr is the #1 as far as the QB situation is concerned. In 2014, Carr threw for 3270 yards and 21 touchdowns to just 12 interceptions. The rookie has shown the Raiders their future is bright as he offers a solid option. Behind him, Christian Ponder, the former Viking, will be a nice back up. Carr can learn a lot from Ponder and if Carr were to go down, Ponder isn’t necessarily a bad option to have. He had some success with Minnesota, but simply did not fit into their system.

At the running back position, the Darren McFadden era is over. While the organization had so many high hopes for him, the fact that he isn’t there anymore won’t be a disappointment to many. Now, they will turn to Latavius Murray. Murray had 82 carries in 2014 for 424 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s the clear go to guy now and will have Trent Richardson right behind him. Richardson has been a major disappointment, but has the experience to be a solid backup.

Receiver wise, Michael Crabtree was probably one of the best signees the Raiders have had in quite some time. Crabtree was the main centerpiece within the 49ers offense and has made himself a dominating threat. To solidify the core, the Raiders drafted Amari Cooper in the past draft. The rookie has high hopes as he was listed the best receiver in the draft.

Khali Mack highlights a young, but definitely promising defense. Mack, who is in his Sophomore season, was one of the best edge pass rushers in the league during his rookie tenure.

Charles Woodson, an 18 year vet, is the class of the secondary. His leadership and explosive play making will give the Raiders a solid product and make them a tough team to pass on.

2015 Oakland Raiders Season Prediction:

While the Raiders aren’t as bad on paper as they’ve been in the past, development is still the idea here.

Carr had a phenomenal rookie season, but he still has a lot of room to improve and a lot to learn. Have Crabtree and Cooper with him will help the process along and could eventually be a solid group.

Oakland is still a last place team in terms of the AFC West, but they will look much more improved this season and even put together some solid wins.
