The Patriots are certainly in for a giant test early in the season and we’re not talking about their opponents. After all the drama, meetings, and complaints, the NFL held Tom Brady’s 4 game suspension up and he will miss the opening weeks of the 2015-2106 season.

Starting in Brady’s place will be the 2 year pro Jimmy Garoppolo. The 2nd round draft pick in 2014 out of Eastern Illinois got his feet wet just a little bit in 2014 as he threw for 182 yards and a touchdown.

For the 7th consecutive season, the Patriots come in favorites in the AFC East. The Patriots have won at least 12 games in each of the past 5 season, but that streak seems to have some concerns heading into this season.
With all the distractions Tom Brady’s suspension has brought the defense is also a major concern. The Patriots lost a lot in the secondary in the offseason with the departures of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner. They also saw arguably their best pass rusher Vince Wilfork sign a 2 year deal with the Houston Texans.
While the Patriots still have a lot of talent defensively, they do have some gaps in there that they will need to fill in order to be successful in 2015.

As far as the offense is concerned, obviously the Patriots will miss Tom Brady through the first 4 games, but they can easily overcome his absence. In terms of a running back, the Patriots and LeGarrette Blount came to an agreement back in November and he will get the #1 role.
However, he’ll be suspended for the 1st game of the season, leaving Jonas Gray in charge at Pittsburgh.
he Patriots may lack any depth or even a breakout star at the RB position, but that has always been a common theme within them. They tend to bring a playmaker in that can catch passes and get tough yards on short downs.
The receiving core is about the same as Julian Edelman has solidified himself as the main guy there. He made some clutch plays in the playoffs last year and was Brady’s 2nd main target. Obviously, the first target belongs to Rob Gronkowski. Gronkowski has been a stellar tight end and is a touchdown machine.

He had 1124 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns in 2014.
Patriots 2015 Season Prediction:
Winning 12 games once again will be tough, especially with the losses to the defense. Missing Tom Brady in the first 4 games won’t help either, but they aren’t in bad hands with Garoppolo.
New England shouldn’t have any problems winning the AFC East again, but a 10 or 11 win season is much realistic.
The defending champs win the division, make the playoffs, and once again try to defend their title.
