2015 Giants Preview & NFL Football Future Lines & Pick

2015 N.Y. Giants Season Predictions

It is hard to believe that the New York Giants went just 6-10 last season and that this team has made the playoffs just once in the last six seasons. Eli Manning had one of his best statistical seasons as a pro last year and Odell Beckham exploded onto the scene but injuries on both sides of the ball in key areas really hurt this team where it counted the most – in the standings.

In 2015-2016 the Giants should be healthy, they should be confident and most of all they should push for a playoff spot. So where do we see the G-Men in December? Mulling the firing of Tom Coughlin or heading into the playoffs to challenge for a third Super Bowl in the last nine years? Let’s take a look.

The optimism for the New York Giants comes from their improved play on offense. New coordinator Ben McAdoo’s system took hold toward the end of last year – the G-Men averaged 29.1 points per game in their last six and did so without Victor Cruz or a reliable running game. Eli Manning threw 30 TDs last year to go along with just 14 interceptions and could reasonably be better this year.

It was all thanks to Odell Beckham who after missing the beginning of the season with a balky hamstring became the most dominant pass-catcher in the game. Beckham caught an astounding 60 balls for 842 yards and nine TDs in New York’s last six games – everyone knew the ball was coming to him and he still managed to terrorize the league. With Victor Cruz taking some of the attention off him, with Rueben Randle ready to take the next step and with Larry Donnell looking like a viable weapon the Giants’ passing game looks scary on paper indeed. The addition of pass-catching running back Shane Vereen also helps.

Speaking of the running backs, the Giants will have to be better at that position. Rashad Jennings is a talented guy but injury prone and Andre Williams is a stereotypical plodder. New York’s running game is OK but will likely be merely a compliment to a stellar passing attack. Shane Vereen was a clear upgrade that adds a new element or safety valve for Eli Manning but don’t expect the G-Men’s rushing attack to win many games for this team.

Perhaps the biggest need for the Giants was on defense. All of the points the teams scored at the end of the season were for not – the team still went 3-3 down the stretch largely because they gave up a ton of points. Steve Spagnuolo was re-hired as D-Coordinator – a great move for this club.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Prince Amukamara are nice pieces in the secondary – Amukamara’s absence from this team after tearing his bicep last year was huge for this club. The Giants also used their high draft picks (other than their first-rounder) on defense. Those picks look especially important with the fireworks “accident” of Jason Pierre-Paul on July 4.

Simply put New York will be better on defense in 2015 – not elite but good enough to hold the team in games and let the offense do its thing.

Giants 2015 Prediction:

The New York Giants postseason drought sits at three years – I think it comes to an end this year. With a relatively easy schedule, with an overwhelming sense of confidence, with the health of some key guys and with some minor tweaks on the roster, the G-Men have a chance to challenge this year. While they may not overtake the Cowboys for the NFC crown and may not quite be at the level to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, they are good enough to go 10-6 and exceed the 8.5 wins Vegas has set for this team.
