The St. Louis Rams enter the 2014-2015 season with more promise than they have had in a while. Sam Bradford should be healthy again in what is one final chance to win the St. Louis Rams fans over.

What the Rams certainly have going for them is a scary defensive line – what they have going against them is that they are in the same division as Seattle, Sam Francisco and Arizona.

The Rams have definitely gotten better under Coach Jeff Fisher and it all starts with defense. Robert Quinn had 19 sacks last year and Chris Long, starting across from Quinn, has a total of 33 sacks in the past three years. The Rams drafted Aaron Donald with the 13th pick – a terrific interior “disrupter” which makes that line down-right scary.

The D-line absolutely has to be stellar – the secondary and the linebacking corps. are average at best. The safety position looks like a mess. The Rams will be up against some top notch offenses this season – the back end of their defense could let them down.

That brings us to the offense – who knows what to make of this unit! Sam Bradford returns from injury and hopes are that Jake Long isn’t far from return from ACL and MCL surgery in December. The Rams did spend wisely in the offseason locking up Greg Robinson, the No. 2 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Translation – Sam Bradford should be well protected – no excuses.

Bradford is THE huge question mark. After tremendous hype coming into the league he had one good year and then has spent the next three seasons underwhelming – or injured! He has missed 15 games in the past three seasons and when on the field he has been ho-hum. He has never been above 6.7 yards per attempt in his career – not impressive at all.

Bradford will have an emerging Tavon Austin to throw to and if Jeff Fisher can get newly signed Kenny Britt to focus on football the Rams have some weapons – but in the NFC West it is all about a strong running game.

That’s where it gets interesting for the Rams. Zach Stacy was terrific at the end of last year – four 100-yard rushing performances in the last half of the season. He had 26 carries and 134 yards in a career defining games against Seattle! And the most impressive part is that he got it done with Kellen Clemens under center.

Rams 2014 Betting Prediction:

Betting on the St. Louis Rams is all about trusting Sam Bradford. There are some nice pieces in St. Louis – the key is getting the most out of an average quarterbacking situation. I just don’t see it happening. Bradford is too brittle and too underwhelming a presence to think the Rams fortunes will turn around at his hands.

A .500 season is possible for the Rams – not much more. They went 1-5 in their own division and the Hawks, the 49ers and the Cards got better in the offseason. At risk of sounding like a broken record – things are looking up for St. Louis but they still seem like they are still two or three pieces away.
