2014 NFC South Predictions – Odds To Win Super Bowl XLIX

Looking For NFC South Picks?

The Carolina Panthers took their turn at winning the NFC South title in 2013 with 12 wins, but heading into the new season the Oddsmakers like the Saints’ chances to capture their fourth division title since 2006.

We will have to wait and see if they are right, but the odds could be on New Orleans’ side considering that since the NFL realigned its divisions in 2002, no team in the NFC South has ever won the division title two seasons in a row.

New Orleans Saints

  • Saints Odds to Win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX +1400
  • Saints Odds to Win the 2015 NFC Conference +750
  • Saints Odds to Win the 2014 NFC South -110
  • Saints NFC South Odds from BetOnline

The Saints have been a perennial contender in the NFC South ever since Sean Payton took over the reins as head coach in 2006. He led the team to a Super Bowl title in 2009 and after serving a one-year suspension by the NFL in 2012, he returned to lead the Saints to 11 wins after they fell to 7-9 in his absence.

The other key to this team is quarterback Drew Brees. As long as he remains healthy this team has a chance to win any game it plays.

The addition of wide receiver Brandin Cooks in the first round of the draft should make one of the best passing offenses in the league even better.

NFC South Prediction: 1st

Atlanta Falcons

  • Falcons Odds to Win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX +3500
  • Falcons Odds to Win the 2015 NFC Conference +1800
  • Falcons Odds to Win the 2014 NFC South +300
  • Falcons NFC South Odds from BetOnline

The Falcons first to worst dive from 13 wins and a division title in 2012 to a 4-12 mark last year had to be one of the biggest surprises of the year. Injuries took their toll last season and were a main reason for this team’s struggles.

Quarterback Matt Ryan threw for the most yards in his six-year career, but this high-powered offense suddenly looked very average without wide receiver Julio Jones in the lineup.

Jones is back to full health and the addition of Devin Hester gives Atlanta another playmaker on offense as well as on special teams. The key to pressing the Saints for the NFC South title will hinge on the Falcons improving a defense that fell to 27th in the NFL last season in both yards and points allowed.

Carolina Panthers

  • Panthers Odds to Win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX +4000
  • Panthers Odds to Win the 2015 NFC Conference +2000
  • Panthers Odds to Win the 2014 NFC South +400

Cam Newton continues to develop as a legitimate franchise quarterback in the NFL and the Panthers’ defense was one of the best in the league last season, but the betting odds suggest a major downturn from last season’s 12-4 record.

Carolina is hoping to replace veteran wide receiver Steve Smith with rookie Kelvin Benjamin, but what they really need is a healthy Jonathan Stewart to anchor the running game.

The Panthers will probably take a step backwards this season, but do not count them completely out of this race.

NFC South Prediction: 3rd

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  • Buccaneers Odds to Win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX +6600
  • Buccaneers Odds to Win the 2015 NFC Conference +3300
  • Bucs Odds to Win the 2014 NFC South +650
  • Bucs NFC South Odds from BetOnline

Tampa Bay continued to spin its wheels last season with just four victories after improving to 7-9 in 2012. Head coach Greg Schiano is gone and Lovie Smith has been brought in to turn things around. He will start this season with many more questions than answers especially in the passing game.

The Buccaneers were ranked last in NFL in 2013 through the air and they are still not set at the quarterback position.

The good news is that running back Doug Martin appears poised to return to the form that accounted for over 1,400 rushing yards in 2012 during his rookie year.

Schiano also has to hope he can get some solid production from rookie wide receiver Mike Evans, who was the seventh overall pick in the draft.

NFC South Prediction: 4th
