2014 NFC East Predictions – Odds To Win Super Bowl XLIX

2014 NFC East – Chip Kelly’s high-flying Eagles poised to soar to even greater heights in 2014

The betting odds remain tight to win the NFC East this season for all four teams, but the clear edge lies with Philadelphia repeating as champions after winning the division last year at 10-6.

One thing we know for sure is that it should remain a tight race until the final game of the season considering that the NFC East Division title has come down to a Week 17 matchup the last three years.

Philadelphia Eagles

Talent-wise, the Eagles appear to be the cream of the crop in a division that has fallen down a few pegs in the pecking order of the NFL. This is especially true on offense with Nick Foles emerging as one of the new young guns in the league at quarterback and LeSean McCoy leading the way running the ball.

There is little doubt that second-year head coach Chip Kelly is on to something with his fast-pace, up-tempo offense, but if the Eagles are going to move up the ranks in the NFC they are going to need a much better effort from a defense that was ranked 29th in the NFL in total yards allowed and dead last against the pass.

NFC East Pick: 1st

New York Giants

  • Giants Odds to Win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX +3000
  • Giants Odds to Win the 2015 NFC Conference +1800
  • Giants Odds to Win the 2014 NFC East +330

The Giants sunk their ship early in 2013 with six-straight losses to start the season, but veteran head coach Tom Coughlin was able to somewhat salvage things with a 7-3 record from that point on. It may only take nine victories to win the NFC East this season, so if they can avoid another slow start, the G-Men should remain in the thick of things right until a Week 17 matchup against Philadelphia.

All of that will hinge on quarterback Eli Manning returning to the form that led to Super Bowl titles in 2007 and 2011. His high rate of interceptions had a lot to do with that six-game losing streak last year, but he also rallied down the stretch to pull out a few wins. The addition of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. with the 12th overall pick in the draft should go a long way towards helping Manning find his game.

Washington Redskins

  • Redskins Odds to Win the 2015 NFC Conference +2500

The worst-to-first-to-worst roller coaster that Washington has been on the last three seasons points to an uptick this year under new head coach Jay Gruden. However, to make that a reality the Redskins are going to need quite a few things to fall their way to get back on top in the NFC East this year.

It all starts with third-year quarterback Robert Griffin III. After posting a stellar rookie campaign to help lead the team to 10 wins and a division title in 2012, he took a major step backwards last year while still recovering from major knee surgery. He is reportedly 100 percent coming into the 2014 season and surrounded by some solid talent at the other skill positions. The main stumbling block for a turnaround could be a defense that was ranked 30th last season in points allowed.

NFC East Pick: 3rd

Dallas Cowboys

  • Cowboys Odds to Win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX +6000
  • Cowboys Odds to Win the 2015 NFC Conference +2500
  • Cowboys Odds to Win the 2014 NFC East +400
  • Cowboys Odds from BetOnline

Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones cannot be happy with three-straight Week 17 losses that cost his team the division title and a winning season, but the way things are shaping-up heading into a new year, Dallas might need all the luck in the world just to get back to an 8-8 mark in 2014.

The slide downward started with some major offseason personnel losses on a defense that was already ranked near the bottom of the league last season in almost every major category. Gone are defensive linemen Jason Hatcher and DeMarcus Ware via free agency and linebacker Sean Lee was lost to a season-ending knee injury. The big question mark on offense is the health of veteran quarterback Tony Romo, who is coming off major back surgery.

NFC East Pick: 4th
