2014 Kansas City Chiefs Schedule | Season Handicapping Picks

NFL Football Chiefs Analysis

One of the most surprising teams in the NFL from last season kicks off their season September 7 – their schedule appears on paper to be a heck of a lot tougher than the one we saw last year.

Vegas isn’t giving this team a whole lotta love setting their season win total at 8.5. Should we be worried about a Chiefs step backward this year or are the oddsmakers giving us a gift by setting the in total so low?

Let’s take a look at every game and see if KC can eclipse 8.5 wins and make it to the playoffs for the second year in a row.

Chiefs Odds [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Odds to win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX: 33/1
Odds to win the 2015 AFC Conference: 14/1
Season Win Total: 8.5 wins

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 7, Tennessee, 1 p.m.

The Titans are one team that took a step backward in the offseason – a total rebuild is underway. The Chiefs beat the Titans on the road last season – expect more of the same this year.

Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 14, at Denver, 4:25 p.m.

The Broncos got better on both sides of the ball in the offseason – Denver is all-in this year to win it all. DeMarcus Ware and Aqib Talib make the Broncos stout on defense and Peyton Manning will continue to be Peyton Manning!

Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 21, at Miami, 4:25 p.m.

The Chiefs get their second dysfunctional team in the first three weeks of the season – against Miami on the road. This will likely be a tougher game than many expect but I like the all-around game of the Chiefs to prevail here.

Week 4: Monday, Sept. 29, New England, 8:30 p.m.

Prime time game at Arrowhead should be a good one! But against Tom Brady and the boys the Chiefs are likely to come out on the wrong end – Bready is 4-1 all-time versus the Chiefs.

Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 5, at San Francisco, 4:25 p.m.

The 49ers are poised to be top tier once again this year – it is hard to imagine San Fran losing on home turf in this one.

Week 6: BYE

Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 19, at San Diego, 4:05 p.m.

The Chiefs play their fourth road game in six weeks – the schedule makers are showing zero love for the Chiefs. But with a bye week to scheme, this could be a road win at San Diego.

Week 8: Sunday, Oct. 26, St. Louis, 1 p.m.

The Rams had arguably the best Draft out of any team in the NFL – they will be very tough on both sides of the ball. The NFC West is crazy-good – but at home you have to love the Chiefs in this one.

Week 9: Sunday, Nov. 2, NY Jets, 1 p.m.

Not sure what to make of the Jets this year – they brought in some key pieces and they will have a predictably stout defense. But at Arrowhead you have to love the Chiefs to get it done in Week 9.

Week 10: Sunday, Nov. 9, at Buffalo, 1 p.m.

The Bills won this matchup last year and I like them to do so again. The Bills are in a little turmoil at the moment – the team’s sale may loom over this team for some time. Trading their best receiving threat Stevie Johnson could be a factor here too.

Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 16, Seattle, 1 p.m.

The Chiefs host the Super Bowl Champs ion what has all the makings of a smash-mouth old-time football game. Seattle’s talent all over the field will be too much in this one – it will be close but ultimately a loss for the Chiefs.

Week 12: Thursday, Nov. 20, at Oakland, 8:25 p.m.

Everybody should beat Oakland this year!

Week 13: Sunday, Nov. 30, Denver, 8:30 p.m.

Another prime time game at Arrowhead. Although the Chiefs should be terrific on home turf this season, the Broncos have all the makings of a team that will only lose 2-3 games all season long – the Chiefs won`t be among the teams that beat Denver.

Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 7, at Arizona, 4:05 p.m.

The Cardinals are a team on the rise – there are few holes on this team heading into 2014. Arizona is 8-2-1 in their last 11 games versus the Cardinals but he Cardinals are poised to be one of the surprise teams in the games. At home Arizona should get the win.

Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 14, Oakland, 1 p.m.

Oakland will be lucky to win 4 games this year – at Arrowhead won`t be one of those wins!

Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 21, at Pittsburgh, 1 p.m.

On the road in Pittsburgh during what is certain to be a playoff run for both teams is a little much to ask for the Chiefs. Former Coach Todd Haley, now Steelers Offensive Coordinator will have something up his sleeve in this one. Ben Roethlisberger in December is awfully hard to doubt!

Week 17: Sunday, Dec. 28, San Diego, 1 p.m.

The Chiefs host the Chargers in what could be a game that propels either team into the playoffs. With so much on the line, expect the Arrowhead crowd to be the difference in this one.

Prediction

The Chiefs look like a reliable team this year – a few good breaks and they could win 10 games this year. I see them going 9-7 this year and taking a bit of a step backward in 2014.
