2014 Cincinnati Bengals Schedule | Season Handicapping Picks

NFL Football Bengals Analysis

Most of the so-called experts are saying the Bengals are in good position to repeat as AFC North champions with their off-season signings and 2014 NFL draft in the rearview mirror what do you think? Here’s a look at their 2014 NFL schedule.

Bengals Odds [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]
Odds to win the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX: 30/1
Odds to win the 2015 AFC Conference: 12/1
Season Win Total: 11 wins

Week 1 – Sunday September 7 – Cincinnati @ Baltimore

No easing into the season for these division rivals. Last year the Bengals were at the top of the AFC North. If they are planning to stay there this is a real statement game. Last year these two teams split with each taking the game on their home turf.

Week 2 – Sunday September 14 – Atlanta @ Cincinnati

The Bengals have their first home game of 2014 against an Atlanta team looking to prove that last season was a fluke. Cincinnati leads the all-time series 7-5 but they have lost three in a row, most recently in 2010.

Week 3 – Sunday September 21 – Tennessee @ Cincinnati

Who knows who will be starting at QB for the Titans at this point which should make this one a bit of a gimme. The Bengals are likely to have a tougher time in the division than they did last season so they need games like these.

Week 4 – Bye Week

Week 5 – Sunday October 5 – Cincinnati @ New England

The Bengals get their first taste of prime time with this trip to New England on Sunday night. Their road schedule is pretty tough and this one might be the toughest of all against Tom Brady and the Pats, a team they have lost 4 straight to and have beaten only once since 1992.

Week 6 – Sunday October 12 – Carolina @ Cincinnati

While the Pats are about finesse the Panthers are a super physical team on offense and defense. Cam Newton should be comfortable with his new slate of receivers at this point and the defense will be challenged to get in his face.

Week 7 – Sunday October 19 – Cincinnati @ Indianapolis

I like this one for making a statement about where these teams rank in the AFC pecking order. I know it is not a fair comparison but imagine if Andy Dalton had Andrew Luck’s moxie, or his talent. Cincinnati has the better supporting cast though.

Week 8 – Sunday October 26 – Baltimore @ Cincinnati

The season is half over and the Bengals will be done with the Ravens already. I do think that the Bengals can come out on top in the opener but either way they have to have this one. They have a tough schedule and need to be near perfect at home.

Week 9 – Sunday November 2 – Jacksonville @ Cincinnati

I love the Jags selection of Blake Bortles but this will still be one of the biggest mismatches of the season. Assuming the Bengals are playoff bound they should dispatch Jax and put a hurt on the rookie QB.

Week 10 – Thursday November 6 – Cleveland @ Cincinnati

More than half the season gone and the Browns and Bengals are just getting started. There should be some good buzz with another rookie QB entering Cincy, the question will be how good is Johnny Manziel looking at this point.

Week 11 – Sunday November 16 – Cincinnati @ New Orleans

This is an exciting matchup pitting teams that are more than their reputations. The Bengals are more explosive on offense than our memory permits while New Orleans is far from the sieve on defense they were a couple of years ago. This should be  highly entertaining game.

Week 12 – Sunday November 23 – Cincinnati @ Houston

The Texans should be improved from last year when everything just fell apart.  This is still a team without a bona fide NFL quarterback so the Bengals should be able to get an important road victory coming down the stretch.

Week 13 – Sunday November 30 – Cincinnati @ Tampa

Tampa should be better this season but at the same time this is a game a playoff bound team has to have. Getting the NFC South in scheduling this season is far from a soft spot and this is a very winnable game.

Week 14 – Sunday December 7 – Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati

These two teams are going to play twice in the last 4 weeks and Cincy can gain the upper hand with a home win. The Bengals have been able to climb in the division over the last few seasons because they have been able to win games like these.

Week 15 – Sunday December 14 – Cincinnati @ Cleveland

Two of the the Bengals final three games are division tilts on the road. This should be the easier one but it is possible the Browns have improved a lot over the course of the season and might be looking to play spoiler.

Week 16 – Monday December 22 – Denver @ Cincinnati

Their final home game will be no picnic. Denver should be making a return trip to the playoffs and maybe the Bengals get a little bit lucky and they don’t need the game thus playing it extra safe. This one could be a huge confidence booster.

Week 17 – Sunday December 28 – Cincinnati @ Pittsburgh

Prediction

The odds are that this one will matter a lot to both team, likely helping to determine whether either of these teams make the playoffs and what spot they will be in.  History often repeats itself in that way.
