Dave B’s NFL Power Rankings – NFL Playoff Edition

NFL Power Rankings – Where Every Team Finishes a Crazy 2013

The NFL Regular season is in the books – what a year of ball it was! The best league in the world had its share of storylines this year and last week.

How about the blown call that kept Pittsburgh out of the playoffs? How about a bunch of backups for the Chiefs looking better than a host to NFL teams? So who emerged on top of the Year End Power Rankings?

Let`s break it all down.

1. SEAHAWKS (Last Week: 1)

Rebounded from their first loss on home turf in two years and looked more like the Hawks we know – manhandling the Rams on Sunday. From the start of the season to the end the Hawks were one of the best – able to win close, low scoring games and shootouts. With home field advantage in the playoffs, the Seahawks are a mighty scary team.

2. BRONCOS (Last Week: 2)

Peyton Manning threw for 266 yards and 4 TDs on Sunday – AND HE ONLY PLAYED A HALF! Manning became the most prolific passer in NFL single-season history this year and the Broncos broke the record for points scored in a season. They have one major question mark however – that’s the defense.

3. PANTHERS (Last Week: 3)

The Panthers have won 11 of their last 12 games heading into the playoffs – the last coming in unconvincing fashion – a one point win over Atlanta. They earned a first round bye and with a defense that sacked Matt Ryan nine times Sunday you’d have to say they earned it.

4. PATRIOTS (Last Week: 4)

The Pats finished 12-4 and seemingly had a different player step up each and every week – in Week 17 it was LeGarrette Blount. Injuries and a revamped roster couldn’t keep New England out of the #2 seed in the AFC – impressive. Experience and a knack of showing up huge in January make the Pats a frightening team going forward.

5. 49ERS (Last Week’s Ranking: 5)

The best of the Wild Card teams, the Niners ended their season with a tidy six game win streak. They travel to Green Bay for the Wild Card game but with an emerging offense and a stout defense, the 49ers are a blue-print playoff winning team.

6. SAINTS (Last Week: 6)

The Saints will need to win on the road to advance in the playoffs – not a good sign for a team that is 3-5 this year away from the Superdome. Still, when clicking the Saints are the most talented offense in the NFC. Drew Brees exceeded 5,000 passing yards for the fourth time in his career Sunday … and no one else has done it more than once.

7. EAGLES (Last Week: 10)

The Eagles host the Saints Sunday – I can’t wait! Chip Kelly’s offense has officially arrived and the players love what it’s doing. Nick Foles, LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson are immense weapons and the Phili defense has turned the corner down the stretch. The most improved team in the NFL finishes #7.

8. COLTS (Last Week: 9)

The Colts made the playoffs for the second straight year under Andrew Luck – they host the vulnerable Chiefs Saturday – a team that they handled with ease earlier this season. They are not exactly a dominant team but the Colts did beat the 49ers, the Seahawks, the Broncos and the Chiefs this year.

9. BENGALS (Last Week: 8)

The Bengals are the AFC North champs and are coming off a nice win in Week 17 against a desperate Baltimore team. Andy Dalton is the key – he can look so good – and he can look so bad! Four interceptions Sunday has many, including me a little scared.

10. CARDINALS (Last Week: 7)

The Cardinals are the best team to not make the playoffs this year – a 10-6 record has to get them in the top 10! If they weren’t in the AFC West, they’d be in the playoffs. Bruce Arians has transformed the culture there and the young pieces they have in place could make the Cards a contender for a while.

11. CHIEFS (Last Week: 11)

The Chiefs followed up a 2-14 season with 11 wins this year – bravo Andy Reid! But this team lost five of their last seven games and now travel to Indy to take on a team that soundly beat them at Arrowhead. The Chiefs are immensely talented on both sides of the ball and could make some noise still.

12. PACKERS (Last Week: 18)

Is there anyone more valuable to their team than Aaron Rodgers? The Pack got it done in the final minute of the final game of the season and qualified for the playoffs. Their reward – the 49ers come to town – a team that has beaten them the last two meetings.

13. CHARGERS (Last Week: 12)
14. BEARS (Last Week: 19)
15. STEELERS (Last Week: 16)
16. RAVENS (Last Week: 13)
17. DOLPHINS (Last Week: 14)
18. RAMS (Last Week: 15)
19. COWBOYS (Last Week: 17)
20. GIANTS (Last Week 23)
21. JETS (Last Week: 20)
22. LIONS (Last Week: 21)
23. TITANS (Last Week: 22)
24. BILLS (Last Week: 24)
25. VIKINGS (Last Week: 27)
26. BUCCANEERS (Last Week: 25)
27. FALCONS (Last Week: 29)
28. BROWNS (Last Week: 28)
29. JAGUARS (Last Week: 26)
30. RAIDERS (Last Week 30)
31. REDSKINS (Last Week: 31)
32. TEXANS (Last Week: 32)
