Cappers Picks NFL Power Rankings – Week 2 – September 11th 2013

Dave B’s NFL Power Rankings – Week 2

NFL Power Rankings – Where Every Team Sits After Week 1

Week 1 of the NFL season is in the books and what a weekend it was! Upsets, injuries and some teams that did exactly what they were supposed to do have shaken the Power Rankings just a bit. But not much has changed at the top – strong QB play has kept the top 3 intact.

That means we got it right heading into the season! The bottom and middle of the Rankings is where things got interesting – a lot of perceived bottom dwellers shocked the landscape and looked very good in Week 1.

Let’s take a look at how the rest of Week 1’s results reshaped the Power Rankings.

1. 49ERS (Last Week’s Ranking: 1)

The Niners did nothing to justify bumping them out of top spot win Week 1 beating the Packers for the third time in a year. Colin Kaepernick passed for over 400 yards in the game and the addition of Anquan Boldin looks like a Super Bowl caliber move. There is nothing about this 49ers team to dislike – unless you are a Seattle fan.

2. BRONCOS (Last Week: 2)

Mr. Manning had himself quite a game on Thursday night – seven TDs. They look like the class of the AFC and the Manning/Welker connection looks potent. Denver played well without its two top defensive players – when they are back expect a run at #1 in the Rankings.

3. SEAHAWKS (Last Week: 3)

Could be #1 next week if they beat the 49ers on Sunday night. Seattle went across country and beat the Panthers in Week 1 – no easy task for this road-win-challenged team. Russell Wilson was sensational (320 yards passing) despite being harassed all day and with Marshawn Lynch expected to have a bounce back game Sunday, the Hawks look dangerous.

4. TEXANS (Last Week: 5)

Deserve to move up one place based on their gutty win Monday night – down 21 points in the second half and rallying. Their place is tenuous in the Top 5 – the team just doesn’t quite have the offensive look of a championship team. The defense should be better going forward and the Texans should remain a top tier or two team.

5. PATRIOTS (Last Week: 8)

They won’t get a lot of style points for their win against Buffalo in Week 1 but a win is a win! Tom Brady to Danny Amendola looks to be a legit threat but the defense needs to be better especially against young QBs.

6. SAINTS (Last Week: 11)

Sean Payton is a difference maker and Rob Ryan actually had the Saints historically bad defense looking OK. With Drew Brees and a formidable defense, look for the Saints to elevate to a top 5 position SOON!

7. PACKERS (Last Week: 6)

Ya, ya – I know. They lost in Week 1 but it was on the road against the best team in the NFL. The Packers fought hard and did some good things and now that they have played their kryptonite, expect the Pack to rise. Defense will continue to be the question mark – we know Aaron Rodgers will do his job!

8. FALCONS (Last Week: 4)

The Atlanta Falcons could have beaten the Saints in Week 1 if not for a few poorly executed plays. Steven Jackson looks like a huge upgrade over Michael Turner – they have to be in the Top 10!

9. BEARS (Last Week: 15)

Impressive win in Week 1 over the talented Bengals. The defense still has the incredible ability to take the ball away and the Jay Cutler/Brandon Marshall connection is special. New coach Mark Testmann may be on to something in Chicago! [soliloquy id=”82219″]

10. BENGALS (Last Week: 9)

Outgained Chicago in Week 1 but ultimately lost the game. AJ Green was about the only Bengal that showed up on offense however – something that is going to have to change if this team hopes to contend.

11. COWBOYS (Last Week: 18)

The defense created six turnovers against the Giants – a team that had owned them recently. Dez Bryant wasn’t a factor in Week 1 and DeMarco Murray was just OK and the team still won. When these guys get going the Cowboys will be a dangerous team.

12. COLTS (Last Week: 12)

Posted the win in Week 1 against Oakland but it took a late game drive by Andrew Luck to do so. We expected better – they hold at #12 until we see a more convincing effort!

13. RAVENS (Last Week: 7)
14. LIONS (Last Week: 24)
15. EAGLES (Last Week: 26)
16. RAMS (Last Week: 17)
17. GIANTS (Last Week 14)
18. REDSKINS (Last Week: 10)
19. PANTHERS (Last Week: 22)
20. CHIEFS (Last Week: 28)
21. DOLPHINS (Last Week: 16)
22. TITANS (Last Week: 27)
23. VIKINGS (Last Week: 13)
24. CARDINALS (Last Week: 25)
25. BILLS (Last Week: 29)
26. CHARGERS (Last Week: 20)
27. BUCCANEERS (Last Week: 21)
28. JETS (Last Week: 30)
29. STEELERS (Last Week: 19)
30. BROWNS (Last Week: 23)
31. RAIDERS (Last Week 32)
32. JAGUARS (Last Week: 31)
