2013 Detroit Lions Complete Season Schedule | Handicapping

Lions Schedule – NFL Football

Next up. The Detroit Lions. One of my favorite tools in preparing for the 2013 NFL football season and to enhance your nfl wagering knowledge is to look ahead at each teams NFL schedule, and evaluate the games they will play.

2013 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 8 MINNESOTA The pass-happy Lions start the season at home against the run-happy Vikings. Detroit should be eager to put last season’s highly disappointing 4-12 campaign behind them, and come out with a strong performance against a division rival in Week 1.

Sun, Sept. 15 @ Arizona This game will be a meeting of two of the game’s elite pass-catchers in Detroit’s Calvin Johnson and Arizona’s Larry Fitzgerald.

Sun, Sept. 22 @ Washington Every competitor in the NFC East division can beat you on any given week, and DC represents perhaps the most explosive and intriguing opponent in the East.

Sun, Sept. 29 CHICAGO The Lions’ offensive line will really miss the free-agent departure of OT Gosder Cherilus, especially with a strong defensive line like Chicago’s coming into town.

Sun, Oct. 6 @ Green Bay Lions QB Matthew Stafford will have to be slinging the pigskin at a near-flawless rate in order to beat the Packers at Lambeau Field, because Lord knows Green Bay will be able to hang some points on Detroit’s defense.

Sun, Oct. 13 @ Cleveland This would be an ideal opportunity for Stafford, Johnson and Co. to go off for a huge game, and set the tone offensively for the rest of the 2013 season.

Sun, Oct. 20 CINCINNATI It will be interesting to see how the Lions handle consecutive weeks of Ohio opponents. Both of these opponents are on the upswing, but the Bengals are much further along in their building process.

Sun, Oct. 27 DALLAS Stafford is from east Texas and should always be game for playing the team he grew up watching, but I just don’t think the Lions’ secondary can handle Dallas’s lethal passing attack. Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is really emerging on a tier just below the Calvin Johnsons of the world.

Sun, Nov. 3 BYE

Sun, Nov. 10 @ Chicago Both of these teams’ offensive lines leave something to be desired, and both defensive lines feature some serious players. I think we could see a good cluster of sacks manifest themselves in this game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Sun, Nov. 17 @ Pittsburgh It’s never fun playing at windy Heinz Field in late autumn, but Detroit’s core of great players have the ability to put down the Steelers. The road team will be in trouble if Stafford starts turning the ball over, however.

Sun, Nov. 24 TAMPA BAY The Bucs – after an extend period of suckiness – are improving in a hurry. They are following the model for success that Detroit should strive to mimic.

Thurs, Nov. 28 GREEN BAY I shudder to think what top-notch Green Bay QB Aaron Rodgers can accomplish indoors at Ford Field. Lions DT Ndamukong Suh will have to be eating up double teams immediately if Detroit is going to have a punching chance.

Sun, Dec. 8 @ Philadelphia The Lions acquired fascinating weapon RB Reggie Bush in free agency this offseason; he might be a vital cog against an often over-aggressive Eagles defense. If you over-commit versus the elusive Bush, it spells trouble.

Mon, Dec. 16 BALTIMORE Maybe Stafford will have a slow-developing, slow-burning path to greatness, kind of like Ravens QB Joe Flacco. It’s not yet out of the question.

Sun, Dec. 22 N.Y. GIANTS Note, Detroit CBs Chris Houston and Darius Slay: always keep tabs on explosive Giants WR Victor Cruz.

Sun, Dec. 29 @ Minnesota No doubt Suh will disrupt things and eat up Adrian Peterson in the backfield a few times, but what is the Lions defense going to do if (and when) Peterson makes it into the second level? Detroit LB DeAndre Levy will likely be called on to make a whole bunch of tackles in this season-ending divisional tilt.
