2011 Week 3 NFL Gambling Lines: Top 3 Matchups and Predictions

The odds makers sharpened their pencils for the second week in a row as the favorites went 8-7-1 against the spread. The home team had the edge at 10-6 ATS and the total went ‘over’ in 11 of the 16 games. We took a step backwards in Week 2 and are now 2-3-1 on our top picks.

After once again crunching the numbers for this week’s games, the following is a brief betting preview and prediction for our top three picks on the schedule.

Sunday, September 25

Arizona Cardinals (-3) at Seattle Seahawks

Over/Under: 43

The Cardinals dropped to 1-1 on the year straight-up with a 22-21 loss to Washington as 4.5-point road underdogs. Kevin Kolb has thrown for 560 yards and four touchdowns in the first two games, while Beanie Wells has 183 yards on the ground and two TD’s.

The Seahawks fell to 0-2 after getting shutout 24-0 by Pittsburgh as 13.5-point road underdogs. Seattle’s offense has been dreadful with a combined total of just 17 points, 383 yards passing, and 95 yards rushing in its first two games.

Arizona is just 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games as a favorite, but the favorite in this series is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings. Seattle is usually tough to beat at home, but it may take another few weeks for Peter Carroll’s offense to get on track.

The Pick: Arizona 24     Seattle 10

New England Patriots (-9) at Buffalo Bills

Tom Brady has garnered all the early votes for a second-straight MVP trophy after throwing for an incredible 940 yards and seven touchdowns, while leading his team to 73 points in the first two games. The Patriots’ defense still remains vulnerable after giving up a combined 45 points to Miami and San Diego. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Bills have rung-up 79 points of their own en route to a surprising 2-0 start. They were especially impressive in last week’s 38-35 come-from-behind victory over Oakland after trailing 21-3 at the half. This Sunday’s track meet will be a great test to see how well Ryan Fitzpatrick and Co. can keep up with the most explosive offense in the league.

New England is 7-2 ATS in the last nine games against the Bills and a perfect 7-0 ATS in its last seven trips to Buffalo. The road team is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings.

The Pick: New England 34     Buffalo 24

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-1.5)

The Falcons are coming off an impressive come-from-behind victory of their own after blowing an 11-point lead in a 35-31 win over Philadelphia as 2.5-point home underdogs. The offense finally got in gear behind a strong performance by quarterback Matt Ryan and veteran tight end Tony Gonzalez.

The Buccaneers were facing a 0-2 start after falling behind 17-0 to Minnesota at the half. Josh Freeman connected with Arrelious Benn on a 25-yard score and LeGarrette Blount added two more touchdowns on the ground to pull out a 24-20 victory as one-point road underdogs.

Atlanta is 2-6 ATS in its last eight games against Tampa Bay and the favorite is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

The Pick: Tampa Bay 23     Atlanta 20
