2011 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 11 NEW YORK GIANTS Washington would love to get the 2011 season started off on the right foot with a win against a division rival. But how much fear is QB Rex Grossman really striking in the opposition?

Sun, Sept. 18 ARIZONA The Redskins were eighth in the NFL in passing last year, but the regular season’s heavy lifting was done by QB Donovan McNabb. With Grossman or whoever starts under center for DC, they can expect stud WR Santana Moss to be swallowed up by Arizona rookie CB Patrick Peterson. He’s that good.

Mon, Sept. 26 @ Dallas These nemeses played great games for years, then went through a stretch of 7-3 and 10-3 low-scoring, poorly-executed stinkers. Lately, at least the offenses are turbocharged again, for the fans that love scoring.

Sun, Oct. 2 @ St. Louis This road game definitely isn’t the cupcake it was a couple seasons ago.

Sun, Oct. 9 BYE

Sun, Oct. 16 PHILADELPHIA Washington draft picks Ryan Kerrigan, Jarvis Jenkins and Nebraska product Dejon Gomes should help the Redskins’ pass defense somewhat. Squaring off against the Eagles – who have perhaps the most potent quick-strike attack – is a textbook example of throwing young solutions directly into the line of fire.

Sun, Oct. 23 @ Carolina Sure, there are surprises in every new NFL season (that’s part of what makes watching so compelling) but this is still a match-up of two crappy teams.

Sun, Oct. 30 @ Buffalo For as many times as the Bills have let the fledgling city of Buffalo down, those fans sure turn out at Ralph Wilson Stadium and tailgate like mad.

Sun, Nov. 6 SAN FRANCISCO Troy Smith? Alex Smith? Colin Kaepernick? Rex Grossman? John Beck? There aren’t any future Hall of Fame pivots in this early November tilt.

Sun, Nov. 13 @ Miami The Redskins may have their hands full containing Miami on the ground; Ronnie Brown can still be an excellent player and, like a vintage wine, Ricky Williams seems to get better with age.

Sun, Nov. 20 DALLAS Somewhat ironically, “America’s Team” travels to the nation’s capital to do battle with the Redskins; the home fans pray Dallas leaves humbled and soundly beaten.

Sun, Nov. 27 @ Seattle With a long road trip, a hostile environment and a Seattle offense that seemed to come together at the end of last season, this could spell doom for DC.

Sun, Dec. 4 NEW YORK JETS For a team that should struggle desperately to keep its head above water in the NFC East, the Redskins really don’t need a visit from one of the best young teams in football.

Sun, Dec. 11 NEW ENGLAND The first two games in December for the Redskins are a real gauntlet, and could totally deflate whatever remains of their season.

Sun, Dec. 18 @ New York Giants Well, Washington, you just left it all on the field in consecutive weeks with two great AFC teams, now you have to travel to New York to play a bitter rival. No rest for the wicked, indeed.

Sat, Dec. 24 MINNESOTA It’s hard to be optimistic when this home game – which includes Adrian Peterson lining up against you – is welcome reprieve in a highly tricky second-half schedule for the ’Skins.

Sun, Jan. 1 @ Philadelphia Like most years, Washington has a few talented players, but will it be trying to play spoiler on the road in Philly for the season finale? More than likely.
