Listed below is the NFL 2011 Tampa Bay Buccaneers schedule and some insider NFL handicapping info.

2011 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 11 DETROIT The baking hot Bay Area draws a sneaky team to open their season. The Bucs are very capable of beating the Lions, but they also can’t take them too lightly, either.

Sun, Sept. 18 @ Minnesota The Vikings are a very good team, save the still (in my mind) large question mark of Joe Webb under center. It’s indeed a problem when your team’s biggest question mark looms at the most important position.

Sun, Sept. 25 ATLANTA Before QB Josh Freeman’s ascendancy last year, most people thought Tampa was a pretender rather than a contender. We’ll find out pretty quick in 2011 where the Bucs stack up in the division with this key match-up.

Mon, Oct. 3 INDIANAPOLIS The oft-domed Colts may be sweating bullets under the Florida heat and lights on MNF, and also because Tampa Bay ranked seventh in the league last year in limiting opponents’ passing. With Peyton Manning, however, normally all bets are off.

Sun, Oct. 9  @ San Francisco A battle of new-age, athletic, just-under-the-radar tight ends, as Tampa’s Kellen Winslow travels in an attempt to best the Niners’ Vernon Davis.

Sun, Oct. 16 NEW ORLEANS The Bucs will be well-heeled in trying to contain premier QBs at home, given their clash with Manning two weeks earlier on MNF. Drew Brees and New Orleans’ weapons won’t offer much consolation.

Sun, Oct. 23 CHICAGO Tampa Bay has the Halloween week off due to a bye, which they might need because they could look black, and blue, and scary after this tilt.

Sun, Oct. 30 BYE

Sun, Nov. 6 @ New Orleans The Bucs have extra time to prepare for the Saints in this one, which they’ll need to either maintain focus or go back to the drawing board, depending on how the Oct. 16 game went.

Sun, Nov. 13 HOUSTON Note to the Buccaneers defense: the Texans can beat you with QB Matt Schaub. Or WR Andre Johnson. Or RB Arian Foster. Or TE Owen Daniels. Just sayin’.

Sun, Nov. 20 @ Green Bay Manning, Brees, Schaub, and now reigning champ Aaron Rodgers. Tampa Bay really makes the rounds of squaring off against the best pivots in 2011. Silver lining, the game is in Wisconsin in November rather than December or January.

Sun, Nov. 27 @ Tennessee Tampa Bay should have a good season, but there are enough tricky games on the slate that the Bucs ought to take away a win versus the Titans.

Sun, Dec. 4 CAROLINA Hey, at least every divisional game in 2011 isn’t daunting.

Sun, Dec. 11 @ Jacksonville The Bucs travel to an in-state rival with a great tailback in Maurice Jones-Drew. MJD is like a little bowling ball; his legs are bigger than most adolescent children and he likely isn’t fun to try and tackle.

Sat, Dec. 17 DALLAS Can the Cowboys fix last year’s woes quickly and on the fly? If so, this will be a real challenge for Tampa Bay. If not, this is a winnable game for the home side.

Sun, Dec. 24 @ Carolina Due to the utter incompetence of the Panthers last season and to the strength of the rest of the NFC South, it may be some time before Carolina re-asserts itself again.

Sun, Jan. 1 @ Atlanta A majorly major contest to finish Tampa Bay’s regular season, where they must score a few majors if they hope to be ending the season singing in a major key.
