2011 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 11 SEATTLE The Niners’ season opens with a divisional Battle of the Latte Drinkers, as Seattle travels to the Bay Area.

Sun, Sept. 18 DALLAS There’s no Deion Sanders in this one… Umm, has it been that long since these two teams were both simultaneously good?

Sun, Sept. 25 @ Cincinnati San Fran travels to southern Ohio with the ability to plug the run; Cincy’s Cedric Benson shouldn’t be a huge issue. SF just can’t allow whoever is playing QB for Cincy to torch them through the air.

Sun, Oct. 2 @ Philadelphia Same thing in this one that I just said for the Cincy game, except multiply that by like 3,200 and replace “whoever” with Mike Vick. No big deal.

Sun, Oct. 9 TAMPA BAY Bucs pivot Josh Freeman is an excellent young signal-caller; this game isn’t a gimme by any means.

Sun, Oct. 16 @ Detroit There could be far more intimidating road games, though don’t tell that to whoever has to cover Calvin Johnson or block Ndamukong Suh.

Sun, Oct. 23 BYE

Sun, Oct. 30 CLEVELAND It’s fitting that a predominately orange team come to town around Halloween. But will the Browns turn the 49ers into a pumpkin? This could be a “sleeper” good game.

Sun, Nov. 6 @ Washington The Redskins were second-last in the league against the pass in 2010. Let’s have one of the Smiths (Troy or Alex) torch DC’s secondary with WRs Michael Crabtree, Josh Morgan and TE Vernon Davis.

Sun, Nov. 13 NEW YORK GIANTS Are the Niners going to meet the G-Men during one of their habitual hot streaks or one of their habitual cold streaks?

Sun, Nov. 20 ARIZONA I know I make it sound like everyone in the NFC West is going to beat up on Arizona, but c’mon. You must win the games that you’re capable of winning in the NFL.

Thurs, Nov. 24 @ Baltimore Niners RB Brian Westbrook shouldn’t expect a lot of real estate versus the Ravens, and Baltimore RB Ray Rice should expect to run buck wild.

Sun, Dec. 4 ST. LOUIS Sam Bradford is a great young pivot; if he ever gets anyone more daunting than slot receiver Danny Amendola to throw to, look out.

Sun, Dec. 11 @ Arizona Playing December games in Arizona, the Pacific Northwest and domes must be much nicer than playing in, say, the NFC North division.

Mon, Dec. 19 PITTSBURGH The eternal optimist says: at least we get Pittsburgh at home, and it is MNF so hopefully we’re fired up beyond belief.

Sat, Dec. 24 @ Seattle There’s no question the Seahawks are one of the better (quite possibly the best) team in the division, but they’re also a Matt Hasselbeck injury away from a downright miserable season.

Sun, Jan. 1 @ St. Louis Is this the year that San Francisco starts to live up to expectations? It won’t happen if the 49ers don’t win their divisional tilts.
