2011 Regular Season Opponents

Mon, Sept. 12 OAKLAND The Broncos had a productive passing game last year, but that was under the purview of QB Kyle Orton – not current starter Tim Tebow.

Sun, Sept. 18 CINCINNATI The first few weeks of the season start out with attainable goals, in terms of win column aspirations for Denver. Hey, when you have a rebuilding ballclub, you have to pinch whatever optimism you can find.

Sun, Sept. 25 @ Tennessee When a team can’t roll out an effective quarterback in the NFL, it generally spells doom before too long. This is why Denver and Tennessee are tying their hopes up in youngsters.

Sun, Oct. 2 @ Green Bay On this same theme, a quarterbacking clinic will be on display when the Broncos travel to Lambeau Field to take on Aaron Rodgers and his Super Bowl champ slash championship belt thrustin’ Packers.

Sun, Oct. 9 SAN DIEGO Tebow could really galvanize the Denver faithful by playing well against San Diego in early October. Denver pulling an upset would be a great boost heading into the bye week.

Sun, Oct. 16 BYE

Sun, Oct. 23 @ Miami The Broncos must deal with a quirky – but still effective – running duo in the oft-injured Ronnie Brown and the ageless and eccentric Ricky Williams.

Sun, Oct. 30 DETROIT Provided someone blocks Lions DT Ndamukong Suh – maybe OG Orlando Franklin, Denver’s second-rounder this year – the horses could beat the cats in this Richard Attenborough-fest.

Sun, Nov. 6 @ Oakland Two spirited rivals do battle in the Bay Area, and the game should be spicier because both clubs are trying to get out (and stay out) of the AFC West cellar.

Sun, Nov. 13 @ Kansas City Last year, seemingly all at once, the Chiefs became good. Though the prospects don’t look as likely for the Broncos to duplicate this, it shows how quickly tides can change in this league.

Thurs, Nov. 17 NEW YORK JETS A very good AFC team comes to town in mid-November. But you never know, right? The Jets could be sucking wind at the high altitude and struggling with the week of short rest. Glass-half-full, damn it!

Sun, Nov. 27 @ San Diego The month of November presents three consecutive grave challenges for Denver. If they play well in one or two of these games, it should be a good omen. If they drop three straight, well, 2011 could look like 2010 at Mile High.

Sun, Dec. 4 @ Minnesota With Brett Favre finally put out to pasture, this could be a defensive struggle in the Twin Cities.

Sun, Dec. 11 CHICAGO If Bears RB Matt Forte keeps smashing into the teeth of the Broncos “D”, it should open up QB Jay Cutler to huck some long bombs to the likes of WR Johnny Knox. Wait, this is supposed to be about the Broncos! Maybe my silence spoke volumes.

Sun, Dec. 18 NEW ENGLAND For Denver to have hopes of pulling an upset, WR Brandon Lloyd must have a huge day against the Patriots’ middling secondary. Denver probably also must force Tom Brady into some turnovers, but Lloyd exploding for a big day would be a nice start.

Sat, Dec. 24 @ Buffalo When two losers beat up on each other, that means there has to be a winner, right?

Sun, Jan. 1 KANSAS CITY If Denver wins this final home game (likely final game of the Broncos’ season) it would do a lot to show that the Broncos are making strides and that Kansas City’s success is perhaps fluky.
