2011 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 11 CINCINNATI The two NFL representatives from Ohio are both fairly miserable, but they hate each other – so it should translate into an entertaining opening week game.

Sun, Sept. 18 @ Indianapolis After the pre-season and an early divisional test, the Browns are thrown straight into the cauldron versus the Colts. Sadly, Cleveland is exactly the kind of team Indy QB Peyton Manning drops 370 yards and three TDs on.

Sun, Sept. 25 MIAMI If Cleveland sits at 2-1 through three weeks of the regular season – not totally out of the realm of possibility – that would be great for the franchise and the snake-bitten city.

Sun, Oct. 2 TENNESSEE The Browns were a pathetic 27th in the league in run defense last season. They drafted nose tackle Phil Taylor to address this concern, but the team can’t allow Titans RB Chris Johnson to rip them up with big gainers.

Sun, Oct. 9 BYE

Sun, Oct. 16 @ Oakland The Raiders’ running game is truly rounding into form, and maybe the entire team is turning the corner – though how many times have we thought that before? The Browns must at least like their chances here.

Sun, Oct. 23 SEATTLE All of Seattle’s good vibes and exceeded expectations will be for nought if the ’Hawks can’t beat the likes of Cleveland.

Sun, Oct. 30 @ San Francisco Cleveland must be confident that QB Colt McCoy is slowly learning how to be successful in the NFL; he is a natural winner with “moxie” and presents a scrambling dimension that someone like Jake Delhomme does not.

Sun, Nov. 6 @ Houston Can the Browns score enough points to keep up? The Texans’ attack is likely to have a field day versus Cleveland.

Sun, Nov. 13 ST. LOUIS If Cleveland is licking its wounds after Houston, then a home game against the Rams in the Dawg Pound is a perfect way to get redemption.

Sun, Nov. 20 JACKSONVILLE Beefy (yet nimble) first-round pick Taylor will be earning his keep when Maurice Jones-Drew and the Jags roll into town.

Sun, Nov. 27 @ Cincinnati Nothing stirs an Ohioan quite like this match-up. Well, Ohio State vs. Michigan in the college ranks, of course, but after the Buckeyes’ recent shenanigans maybe this NFL clash has renewed luster.

Sun, Dec. 4 BALTIMORE If the Ravens’ running game is operating smoothly and QB Joe Flacco is playing well at the same time, the home team is screwed. It’s that simple.

Thurs, Dec. 8 @ Pittsburgh After consecutive weeks of stressful divisional games, isn’t a tilt against the division’s elite – on short rest, of course – exactly what you’d ask for?

Sun, Dec. 18 @ Arizona The Cardinals still have a couple respectable players, but this road game must feel like a Swedish massage after the late-season gauntlet of Cincy, Baltimore and Pittsburgh.

Sat, Dec. 24 @ Baltimore Oops, I may have spoke too soon.

Sun, Jan. 1 PITTSBURGH It is safe to say the latter half of Cleveland’s schedule does it no favors. If the Browns can even finish .500 in the second half of the season, it will say a lot about the team’s character.
