2011 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 11 @ Cleveland Bengals RB Cedric Benson – who was crucial to the gameplan in past seasons – and the entire Cincy running game screeched to a halt in 2010, which isn’t a good sign for success in the AFC North.

Sun, Sept. 18 @ Denver Neither the Browns in Week 1 or the Broncos in Week 2 are dominant teams, so Cincy has a good chance of establishing positive habits and maybe starting the 2011 campaign with two road wins.

Sun, Sept. 25 SAN FRANCISCO The 49ers drafted DE Aldon Smith seventh overall this year to aid in the pass rushing; he, LB Patrick Willis and other strong San Fran defenders will probably be in the grill of whoever starts at pivot for Cincinnati.

Sun, Oct. 2 BUFFALO The good news: the Bengals first five games (including the following week vs. Jacksonville) are all winnable, theoretically. The bad: Cincy was 4-12 last season, so it is unlikely that will happen.

Sun, Oct. 9 @ Jacksonville The Jags sorely need someone to play some strong quarterback; former Cincy franchise guy Carson Palmer wants out of town. Does this make sense to just me? Gabbert schmabbert!

Sun, Oct. 16 INDIANAPOLIS The Colts have a miserable running game, and the Bengals have a strong pair of cornerbacks in Leon Hall and Johnathan Joseph. It’s a good start, to be sure, but Cincy is still notably out-classed in this game.

Sun, Oct. 23 BYE

Sun, Oct. 30 @ Seattle Hands up, if you’re a Bengals fan and want Mike Brown and the ownership team to tragically perish in a hang-gliding accident? Hey, at least this game is in the Pacific Northwest – you can probably find an alt-rock band to write a depressing song about your predicament.

Sun, Nov. 6 @ Tennessee Tasteless jokes aside, if Cincinnati can get downfield early and often to the likes of WR Jordan Shipley and TE Jermaine Gresham, the Bengals stand a good chance of winning this road contest.

Sun, Nov. 13 PITTSBURGH The vitriol alone in this divisional rivalry is enough to claim that Cincy has at least a fighting chance at home against the Steel crew.

Sun, Nov. 20 @ Baltimore It’s Joe Flacco. Or it’s RB Ray Rice. Or it’s the vaunted Ravens “D”. One way or the other, this probably won’t be a fun road trip for Cincinnati.

Sun, Nov. 27 CLEVELAND The second leg of a classic in-state rivalry should bring a slobber-knocker, especially if Cincinnati gets its running game back on track in 2011.

Sun, Dec. 4 @ Pittsburgh The weather should be as chilly as the relations in this match-up at Heinz Field.

Sun, Dec. 11 HOUSTON The Houston offense brings a myriad of weapons to worry about, but most of the time the offense is overworking scoreboards, the Texans’ defense is doing exactly the same thing. Good news for Cincy, especially if the earlier divisional games go better than planned.

Sun, Dec. 18 @ St. Louis An indoor game is always a welcome prospect in December. More welcoming is the Rams offense; although it is coming along with young players, both St. Lou’s passing and rushing attacks are in the bottom half of the league in productivity.

Sat, Dec. 24 ARIZONA Provided one (or likely two) members of the Cincy secondary can contain WR Larry Fitzgerald, the Bengals stand an excellent chance of snagging another late-season win.

Sun, Jan. 1 Baltimore At first glance, it is hard to believe that the Bengals will contend for the AFC North, yet anything can happen in this division where there is indeed no love lost.
