St. Louis Rams Betting Odds – NFL Football Futures

Are you getting sick of the annual 49ers preseason hype yet? Once again, the 49ers are being touted as the favorite in the weak NFC West but once again, they enter the season with as many question marks as they do answers.

**Ready To Bet On NFL Season Win Total Odds? We will have them posted soon!

A look at the numbers:

Last season – 6-10 SU, 7-9 ATS
Projection this season – 8-8 (2nd in NFC West)
49ers Super Bowl XLVI Odds: +4000
49ers 2011/12 NFC Odds – +2500
2011 49ers NFC West Lines – even

Another new coach, another new system and another new culture will hopefully mesh with a rather familiar corp. of players that has failed to impress in recent years.

Will this be the year of will this finally be the year that the 49ers finally get over the hump?

It wouldn’t be the 49ers if there weren’t a few issues to deal with. Perhaps the biggest and most glaring issue going into 2011 is the fact that Jim Harbaugh will have an uber-abreviated camp to instill what he has in store for this team. Harbaugh is a former West Coast Offense QB coaching a West Coast Offense team with a West Coast Offense QB and a prototypical West Coast Offense running back. That’s if the oft-injured Frank Gore shows up to camp after threatening a contact hold-out.

Familiarity has already come in the form of Michael Crabtree’s “issues”. He ruffled a few feathers when he refused organized workouts with his team during the lockout and once he finally got together with his mates, Crabtree got injured on Day 1. There is a chance that Michael misses the start of the season with injury – at very least he will be behind everyone else’s fitness level and knowledge of the playbook.

Defensively this team was supposed to be an elite squad but failed to live up to expectation in the last four years. They have shown flashes of brilliance but have been a disappointment overall. The fact that Mike Singletary couldn’t rally this group raises a few red flags in my eyes. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The loss of Takeo Spikes via Free Agency also scares me a little bit.

49ers NFC West Prediction:

The biggest question to ask yourself about the 2011 San Francisco 49ers is – can I trust a nucleus that has remained largely intact but has completely underwhelmed year after year? If the answer is yes, the 49ers could be your team. Form me; the 49ers did the least of any of the NFC West teams during Free Agency to improve themselves.

They still have a brutal quarterback, a fragile running back and an Offensive Line that is untrustworthy as any in the NFL.

It has been said that the NFL is a Quarterback driven league and unless Jim Harbaugh has a magic wand, Alex Smith is certainly not the answer.

Colin Kaepernick may just be starting for the 49ers by season’s end but unfortunately for him, he won’t have a decent mentor to learn from.

Look for the 49ers to disappoint again – Jim Harbaugh would have needed a full offseason in order to make a difference. 8-8 and second place in the NFC West seems about right!
