2010 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 12 CLEVELAND – Hosting the Browns? This is a great way for a young team to get some confidence and momentum rolling at the beginning of the campaign.

Sun, Sept. 19 @ Carolina – We’ll see the effectiveness of young Bucs DTs – such as Roy Miller and top rookie pick Gerald McCoy – early and often because Panthers RBs DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart will be toting the rock – a lot.

Sun, Sept. 26 PITTSBURGH – The Steel Curtain won’t have their starting quarterback and they’ll be gasping in the Florida humidity, so who knows?

Sun, Oct. 3 BYE An early bye week for these plucky NFC South competitors. They must be focused for an extended stretch run.

Sun, Oct. 10 @ Cincinnati – It could be a veteran Carson Palmer; it could always be Ocho; it could be an effective ground game spearheaded by Cedric Benson; or even a fleet-footed defense. One can’t underrate the Tabbies.

Sun, Oct. 17 NEW ORLEANS – These are the kind of games that will make young QB Josh Freeman a premier player in the league.

My Sportsbook

Sun, Oct. 24 ST. LOUIS – If football had a barometer, this is a needed drop in pressure after Cincy on the road and the reigning Super Bowl champs. A win the Bucs should snag if they want a remotely satisfying 2010 season.

Sun, Oct. 31 @ Arizona – Can ageing CB Ronde Barber still cover the league’s elite (re: Larry Fitzgerald)? Who else would you entrust the job to?

Sun, Nov. 7 @ Atlanta – This is a game the Falcons need to win, and they’ll know it. Tampa better be in it to win it with this road contest.

Sun, Nov. 14 CAROLINA – There’s nothing Bucs fans would like to see more than McCoy implanting Matt Moore or Jimmy Clausen (probably Clausen preferably) deep into the Raymond James Stadium turf.

Sun, Nov. 21 @ San Francisco – The 49ers have always been a tricky team to get a reading on, so Tampa should err on the side of caution and expect a dogfight.

Sun, Nov. 28 @ Baltimore – If the Bucs could emulate the Ravens progress in a couple of seasons, I think they’d be very happy with that.

Sun, Dec. 5 ATLANTA – The Buccaneers face several good young teams on the 2010 schedule; a couple of them are in their own division. Best game plan: slow down workhorse RB Michael Turner first and then cross the next bridge when you get to it.

Sun, Dec. 12 @ Washington – The ’Skins take so much resident abuse in the NFC East, perhaps they’ll relish an opportunity to beat up on a lesser opponent. Or perhaps they’ll disappear entirely, as they’ve been prone to do in recent seasons.

Sun, Dec. 19 DETROIT – Reading the newspaper, playing Scrabble, walking the dog and making love to your significant other are all viable Sunday activities.

Sun, Dec. 26 SEATTLE – If one of the Joshes (QBs Freeman or Johnson) become adept at throwing it over the heads of Seattle’s talented LB corps, we might have something.

Sun, Jan. 2 @ New Orleans – This is a game the Bucs can viably steal if New Orleans pulls an Indianapolis Colts from 2009.
