Sept. 2-3 at Jacksonville

2010 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 12 @ Pittsburgh – Without Big Ben diversifying the Steelers’ offense, the Falcons have a great shot at grabbing a season-opening win.

Sun, Sept. 19 ARIZONA – The Cardinals ousted Atlanta from the post-season in 2008; there will be retribution on the mind of the home team in the Battle of the Birds.

Sun, Sept. 26 @ New Orleans – Atlanta has the athletic defense that can limit the defending champs’ big plays, but grinding QB Drew Brees to a halt is still a virtual impossibility.

Sun, Oct. 3 SAN FRANCISCO – The Niners’ team is pretty similar to the Falcons, except Michael Turner is a more reliable Frank Gore and QB Matt Ryan is much better than Alex Smith. This translates into Atlanta’s chances being promising.

Sun, Oct. 10 @ Cleveland – The Dawg Pound hasn’t been imposing for some time now, and the Dirty Birds should be expecting to be coming away with a road W here.

Sun, Oct. 17 @ Philadelphia – This rivalry goes back to the days when hardened criminal Michael Vick was under center for Atlanta. The Eagles passing offense should be not unlike New Orleans’, who Atlanta encountered in Week 3.

Sun, Oct. 24 CINCINNATI – These two offenses look similar, except that Bengals pivot Carson Palmer has taken his lumps, while the youthful Matt Ryan is still fresh.

Sun, Nov. 7 TAMPA BAY – In the past couple seasons, the Bucs have been adept at concocting a strange mix of dynamic young players with ineffective, incompatible vets. This is a division game ripe for Atlanta’s picking. My Sportsbook

Thurs, Nov. 11 BALTIMORE – Atlanta’s third consecutive home game is on short rest and against a Baltimore team that might be the best in its respective division. This match-up will surely be a test of endurance and focus.

Sun, Nov. 21 @ St. Louis – So long as the Falcons don’t take their foot off the gas pedal after a challenging home stretch, the odds look good for momentum to gather for the Georgia Domers.

Sun. Nov. 28 GREEN BAY – Though the Packers are used to playing in the frostiest of climes, an indoor stadium will cater to their potent passing attack. Matt Ryan and WR Roddy White must effectively counter-attack to keep pace.

Sun, Dec. 5 @ Tampa Bay – So long as [Tampa RB] Cadillac [Williams] isn’t once again in the garage, we should have a watch-able game here.

Sun, Dec. 12 @ Carolina – The Falcons better be in the mood to stop the run in this divisional road game before Christmas.

Sun, Dec. 19 @ Seattle – The Dirty Birds have a long flight to get to this road game; they hope they can leave with positive results to get them in the holiday spirit.

Mon, Dec. 27 NEW ORLEANS – The penultimate test. The reigning Super Bowl champs come onto Falcons turf, looking to assert their dominance as the playoffs approach. If Atlanta is to be regarded as a serious contender, it needs a good showing against the Saints in this game.

Sun, Jan. 2 CAROLINA – If wet-behind-the-ears quarterbacks Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen have exceeded Carolina’s expectations and the Panthers are contending for the division, there could be plenty at stake in the NFC South in the final game of the season.
