What you saw last season was not even a reasonable facsimile of the team had entered 2008 with four straight AFC West titles. True, injuries are part of the game.

But so is losing, and injuries and losing walked hand in hand on the way to a 4-12 season.

QB Matt Hasselbeck claims he’s fully recovered from a bad back that limited him to 7 games and a 52 percent completion average last year. But Hasselbeck’s woes were just a piece of the pie; the Seahawks had trouble running the ball all year, and there were so many boo-boos in the receiver corps that Mike Holmgren was signing wideouts all season. betED Free agent signee T.J. Houshmandzadeh should help take the heat off perennially-injured Deion Branch.

And while offense never got the car out of the garage to see what it could do on the highway, the defense was giving up 25 points a game. If that continues, new coach Jim Mora will have a short stay in the Northwest. The Seahawks are hoping DL Patrick Kerney (hurt part of last year) has some juice left at 32. DT Cory Redding was a free agent signing.

Is Mora the right guy to replace legend Mike Holmgren? Last season he coached the Seattle secondary, which was fish-dead last in the league (259 yards a game).

Surprising stat: Opposing offenses ran off 131 more plays than the Seahawks did last season.

Team strengths: Not much was done to shake up the secondary, but the Seahawks think that one of the best linebacking groups in the league will compensate. Seattle used the No. 4 overall draft pick to grab LB Aaron Curry, and he figures to start alongside Lofa Tatupu and LeRoy Hill.

Team Weakness: Besides problems at the corners, Seattle was unable to run the ball last season. Julius Jones and T.J. Duckett should get the bulk of the carries again, but both could be on a short leash.

Seattle will be one of the more interesting teams to watch this season. The NFC West is wide open and another 9-7 season will probably win it. I see Seattle battling it out with the 49’ers for the division.

After a four win season and 15 starters out with injuries including QB Matt Hassleback, new head coach Jim Mora will be called upon to out the Seahawks back together again. There will be some new faces to the Seahawks lineup. First there is free agent acquisition T.J. Houshmandzadeh, who will improve Hasslebacks ability to create a more consistent air assault. The defense will boast first round pick LB Aaron Curry, who is expected to make for a solid line backing unit along with a returning Lofa Tatuput. Adding a few new defensive lineman to the team including 330-pound juggernaut Colin Cole, will improve this years defense. RB Julius Jones will again be a weapon on the ground and have a solid season. Seattle will make small improvements and finish 2009 with a 9-7 record.
