The Wolverines are coming off a 63-47 win over the Indiana Hoosiers two weeks ago, and have had an extra week to prepare for their bout with Spartans, who will look to maintain sole possession of first place in the Legends division in the Big Ten with another strong performance from a stingy defense.

A Michigan win however, could claim that spot, as the Wolverines own the tie breaker over MSU.

The Wolverines 8th ranked offense, which is putting up an average of 42 points per game, amassed an eye-popping 751 offensive yards against a weak Hoosier defense.

Devin Gardner threw for a Michigan-record 503 yards and accounted for a school-record five touchdowns – two passing and three on the ground – as Jeremy Gallon nearly broke the NCAA record for receiving yards in a game, finishing with 14 receptions for a Big Ten-record 369 yards. However, the Wolverines defense also surrendered 572 yards on the day.

That has to be a bit of a concern as they get set to square off against an MSU offense that dismantled the Illinois Fighting Illini 42-3 last time out.

The Spartans lit up the scoreboard, holding Illinois to just 128 total yards while rolling up 477 offensive yards of their own, including an amazing 269 yards on the ground.

That’s a big improvement for an offense that has been suspect at times this season.

Quarterback Connor Cook set the single-game school record for completion percentage , connecting on 15-of-16 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns before giving way to backup Andrew Maxwell early in the fourth quarter against Illinois.

Matt’s Free Prediction

This will no doubt be one of the best college football games to watch this weekend as both sides have proven they can put on an impressive offensive show.

Lots of scoring here.

But even as impressive as the Wolverines offense was against the Hoosiers, it’s going to run into a brick wall against a suffocating MSU defense.

Michigan State 45, Michigan 27
