The Wolfpack improved to 3-1 on the season after beating Central Michigan 48-14 on Saturday.

North Carolina State has only lost once to the Demon Deacons who were  routed 37-6 by the Wolfpack last season.

Wake Forest’s Tanner Price was sacked five times in that one, and more of the same could be in store for the senior quarterback, who has been sacked 11 times through four games in 2013.

The Deacon defense could do nothing to stand in the way of the Clemson Tigers’ offense, allowing quarterback Tajh Boyd  to run amuck. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Price led his team offensively, completing 64 percent of his passes and connecting for one score, but overall the offense struggled to move the ball in critical third down situations, converting just 2-of-14 on the day.

Defensively, the Demon Deacons have struggled as well, giving up 573 yards, with 407 coming thru the air to Clemson.

They will have their work cut out for them as they host a solid NC State squad this weekend.

The Wolfpack bounced back after a loss to Clemson and blasted the Chippewas last weekend.

Junior quarterback Pete Thomas, who has thrown a total of five interceptions in four games, rebounded as well, tossing  for one TD and  running for another. He also extended  his streak of consecutive games with more than 200 yards passing.

Meanwhile, the defense has held opponents to an average of 18 points and allowed only one team to score more than 14 this season.

Matt’s Prediction

The home team has won in each of the last six meetings in the series, with the teams splitting those meetings, 3-3, dating back to 2007.

And while the Demon Deacons have not lost at home against the Wolfpack since 2001, I just don’t think they can keep pace with NC State’s offense. Let alone move the ball successfully against a solid defensive front that should cause Price and the Wake Forest offense trouble all day long.

North Carolina State 27, Wake Forest 14
