Several people never considered Pittsburgh a real contender for the Big East Conference title since star tailback LeSean McCoy declared for the NFL Draft last year.

But nobody was counting on 19 year old Dion Lewis to step up and emerge as star for the Panthers. He has 9 TDs so far in the season and is closing in on 1000 rushing yards.

“The consistency that Dion has demonstrated has been unbelievable, on the field and off the field,” Panthers coach Dave Wannstedt said. “I walked down to the training room about 7:30 morning and there was one guy in there getting some treatment and doing a little rehab. It’s Dion Lewis. … He’s doing everything right”.

Lewis is the nation’s third leading rusher with 131.1 yards per game, and he tied McCoy with four 100-yard games, the big difference is that McCoy made that number in his entire 12 games as freshman.

All college football fans keep in mind South Florida rushing defense is second worst in the Big East conference and should be a favorable matchup for Lewis and the Pittsburgh offense.

Another good matchup for the Panthers is their defense against Bulls QB B.J. Daniels. He is versatile QB who can thrown and run the ball, however Pitts front seven has shown great discipline making it difficult for RBs to find any type of holes.

Daniels has 7 TD on the air and another 4 on the ground but has 4 interceptions (2 last week in the loss 34-17 against Cincinnati).

For the Bulls, QB Bill Stull has improved immensely from last year to this. He already has 14 TD with just 3 picks compare to his nine touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 12 games last season

College Football Betting Tip: Pitt and USF have split six meetings, with the Bulls winning twice at Heinz Field. Pitt looks to go 7-1 for the first time since 1982.

Also if you’re betting the game total, keep in mind the total has gone UNDER in 5 of South Florida’s last 6 games on the road and has gone UNDER in 4 of Pittsburgh’s last 5 games.

My pick: The Panthers.
