I guess there is always going to be an interesting angle to this matchup as long as Houston Nutt, the former Arkansas coach, is roaming the sideline snow for Ole Miss. In last year’s game the Rebels barely hung on for a 23-21 win. In 2008 Nutt pulled off the big upset over Florida, and ended the season with a flourish, winning the last six games and making their football betting backers very happy.

Well, this year it’s Bobby Petrino and the Hogs who may be developing some momentum. Since the Razorbacks suffered an ignominious 35-7 loss to Alabama on September 26, they have been coming on like a freight train, wiping the floor with Texas A&M (47-19) and Auburn (44-23) before going to Gainesville and suffering a gut-wrenching defeat to the #1-ranked Florida Gators where the outcome was decided with nine seconds left. They have won three straight in the football betting odds.

In these games Ryan Mallett, the former Michigan understudy of Chad Henne who transferred to Arkansas Razorbacks after Rich Rodriguez was hired in Ann Arbor, has hit 63 of 91 passes with seven TD’s. Overall, he’s thrown 14 TD passes with only three interceptions.

Jevan Snead came into the season with a reputation left over from last year and was expected to maybe push Tim Tebow for all-conference honors in the SEC. He was also pushed by some people (including myself, I believe) as a possible Heisman candidate.

To say the least, Snead has not been as good as advertised. He has yet to reach 20 completions or 250 yards in any one game, and in back-to-back games against Vanderbilt and Alabama he had seven interceptions. Snead has not made the plays when the pressure’s been on during the big games Ole Miss has had, as demonstrated by a 7-for-21 performance against South Carolina, and an 11-for-34 effort against the Tide.

It is this general failure of Snead that leads us to believe Ole Miss wouldn’t benefit all that much if Arkansas were to come out of the gate rather flat, coming off that disappointment against Florida. The Rebels, with 36 points in three SEC games, haven’t been at all threatening offensively, so we are not comfy about laying this kind of number here. We’re going with Arkansas, the 6.5-point underdog in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
