NCAA Week 6 Wagering – Penn State Nittany Lions at Purdue Boilermakers

The Penn State Nittany Lions (5-0 SU, 3-1 ATS) could be in the national title picture if they roll through the Big 10 schedule undefeated. They’ll take another step toward that on Saturday as they take on the Purdue Boilermakers (2-2 SU, 1-2 ATS) in Big 10 college football action that is slated for a Noon ET kickoff at Ross-Ade Stadium (natural turf) in West Lafayette, IN.

BetUS NCAA Football Betting Odds: PENN STATE -13, Total 58

Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

* PSU has won its last six games SU
* PSU has won four of its last five road games SU
* PSU has played four of its last six road games OVER the total
* PUR has won nine of its last 12 home games SU

Also….

* PSU has covered seven of the last nine meetings
* PSU has won eight of the last ten meetings SU
* The last five meetings have gone UNDER the total

Purdue seems to have a genuine threat in Kory Sheets (439 yards, 7 TD’s), who had a shoulder injury but has been declared 90% for Saturday’s game by coach Joe Tiller, but my impression is that Tiller is not using him wisely enough. Curtis Painter throws the ball up 55 times against Notre Dame and his team can manage only 21 points in a 17-point defeat. Yes, there is something very wrong with this picture. When you have a quarterback that averages four yards an attempt. as Painter did in an earlier defeat to Oregon (50 passes, 207 yards), you can come to the conclusion that opposing defenses can meet with success in limiting him to the dink-and-dunk throws and just stop the big plays, especially if safety Anthony Scirrotto plays for the Lions on Saturday.

Daryll Clark, who has thrown one interception in 98 attempts and two TD passes in each of the last four games, has, in our eyes, been the far more productive quarterback than Painter. Jordan Norwood and Deon Butler have combined for 34 catches and 590 yards. And Derrick Williams, probably the best of the lot and maybe one of the best in the country, has hardly even gotten himself started yet.

Tiler is lamenting the absence of linebacker Jason Werner, who won’t be available here. “He was clearly our best player on defense going into the season when he got injured,” said the coach. Unfortunately, this Boilermaker team, which proved last weekend against Notre Dame that they are still miles away from breaking through above minor-bowl status, all defensive hands really need to be on deck.

We will lay the points with Penn State, the 13-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
