Nebraska fans have reason to be happy, as the Cornhuskers have given off the look of more toughness under Bo Pellini. Of course, things got a little tough on the ground last week against Virginia Tech, as NU managed only 55 net rushing yards. Allowing 35 points to the Hokies was not a good sign. Now Missouri comes in, with much of the cast that rolled up 606 total yards in last year’s 41-6 blowout.

We have very little doubt that Nebraska’s capable Joe Ganz (64%, 997 yards) will continue to throw punches to the bitter end. And don’t count out his balanced backfield, even though it may not have started to really produce big numbers yet. Missouri ranks second in passing offense, total offense, scoring offense, and even 31st in rushing. But it is likely that the Tigers’ secondary (111th in pass defense) will allow the swashbuckling Ganz to do some business, if Pellini chooses to turn him loose. He may have no choice, as Missouri could score on almost every possession, as long as Chase Daniel (75%, 1412 yards, 12 TD. one INT) is at the controls, and he has FOUR receivers with 270 yards or more to throw to.

Oh, don’t bet against a big special teams play by Maclin (340 return yards) either.

The thing is, Ganz is precisely the kind of QB you want when you are seeking that “back door” cover. We figure he’ll have to keep firing away. Nebraska’s stop unit can’t stop this crew, and Missouri is very anxious to end a drought in Lincoln that has dated back to 1978. But garbage points by Nebraska are very possible, and the Tigers, who allowed 532 total yards against Illinois in the season opener, may be in no position to slow it down.

We’re moving with the total here, going OVER the 69 points as it is posted in the BetUS NCAA football betting odds.

Our PLAY: OVER 69 ***
