Gators vs. Volunteers Predictions

Gambling preview for this week’s matchup between the Gators and the Volunteers. This is a classic SEC battle between two of the top college football programs in the nation.

NCAAF Saturday – Florida Gators vs. Tennessee Volunteers

The Florida Gators and Tennessee Volunteers battle it out in Tennessee in what already has the makings of a serious SEC clash. The online betting odds are clearly in favor of the Gators who some college football betting fans predict as the only team capable of giving the mighty USC Trojans a run for their money.

I love the Gators but their clashes with Tennessee have been legendary and legendary rival games almost always end up in favor of the underdog. The Volunteers were wiped out by the Gators in their game in the early part of the 2007 – 2008 season. Then, the Vols turned things around and made their way back to the SEC Championship game where they lost to the LSU Fighting Tigers in overtime.

Because of their stunning loss to the UCL Bruins in the first week of the season, the Vols will need to step it up earlier this year than last year. It begins against a Florida team that is now getting their best offensive threat, running back Percy Harvin, healthy enough to actually start and carry a lot of the load for Florida. That’s not a good sign because when push comes to shove the Gators are capable of just handing the ball off to Tim Tebow and letting him do his thing.

Here are the BetUS Sportsbook online NCAAF betting odds for this game.

Kick-off: 9/20/2008 3:30 pm est.
Florida Gators – 8 – 115
Tennessee Volunteers + 8 – 105

Here are a few online wagering trends that might help us find a good online bet in this game.
The Florida Gators are 4 and 1 against the spread in their last 5 games on the road.

The Florida Gators are 10 and 4 against the spread in their last 14 games on grass.

The Tennessee Volunteers are 7 and 2 in their last 9 games at home.

The Tennessee Volunteers are 2 and 5 against the spread in their last 7 games after allowing less than 20 points in the previous game.

This is a classic SEC battle between two of the top college football programs in the nation. The Florida Gators are the much hyped product of Urban Meyer’s excellent coaching and recruiting philosophy. From a BetUS online sportsbook point-of-view, there’s little doubt that the Gators are one of the top teams to place an online bet on in all of college football.

But what about the Vols who get to play the Gators at home this season? On paper Tennessee matches up fairly well with Florida. They do not have the offensive firepower that the Gators have but they do have home field advantage as well as a very good defense.

The UCLA game aside, where online betting fans were treated to a major upset, Tennessee should be able to slow down Tim Tebow, Percy Harvin and that Gators attack just enough to keep this game within reach.

This is a tough call. The Gators could blow the Vols out. But the Vols have pride and there’s no way to discount how important that Tennessee fan base is going to be this Saturday.

The online bet that I’ll be making is on the Tennessee Volunteers at + 8 at home to beat the online wagering spread. In these incredibly tough SEC games, I have to take the team receiving points.
