Week 4 CFB Power Rankings

Who’s on top of the college football betting mountain for Week 4 of the 2009 NCAA football gambling season? Our cfb handicapping experts brake down all the weekend action…

College Football Week 4 Rankings – Top 25 Teams in the Country

The USC Trojans aren’t supposed to lose to unranked teams yet that is what they have done three years in a row. Three years ago, they were throttled by Stanford as 40 + point favorites ATS at home.

Two years ago, they were beat by Oregon State on the road as 20 + point favorites. This past Saturday it happened again as Washington, unranked as a +20 ½ point favorite, upset the might 2nd ranked USC Trojans to all but end the Trojans’ hopes for a shot at the BCS Championship.

NCAAF Power Rankings

1. Florida – – They keep the top spot even though they failed to cover the spread by 19 ½ points when beating Tennessee 23 to 13. To me, that’s a victory for Lane Kiffin and the Volunteers who may have come up with the blue print to beat the Gators. Did you watch LSU, ‘Bama and Ole Miss? Did you?

2. Texas – – The Longhorns failed to cover as well even though they beat the Texas Tech Red Raiders 34 to 24. Texas was -20 in the BetUS sportsbook. Too bad for the Red Raiders who looked like winners at one point in this game. Things just didn’t work out.

3. Alabama- – It wasn’t much of a contest as the Crimson Tide covered by +9 against North Texas. Alabama just keeps rolling along.

4. Mississippi – – No football odds were offered in the Rebels’ game against Southeastern Louisiana. Ole Miss didn’t let that bother them by SOLOU 52 to 6.

5. LSU- – LSU covered by only 1 point against UL Lafayette, but since Washington beat USC and LSU beat Washington three weeks ago, the quality of the Fighting Tigers can’t be questioned.

6. Penn State – – Another doormat, another non-cover ATS by the Nittany Lions. This time, Temple managed to put up 6 points. Penn State won 31 to 6, but they’re having trouble covering spreads against bad teams. Why until they face Michigan.

7. California – – The Golden Bears either covered by ½ a point or failed to cover by ½ a point depending on what NCAA bettors got them at. Either way, they looked impressive playing on the road against a Big Ten team. Cal versus USC is going to be good later on this year.

8. Boise State – – The Broncos played supposedly their toughest road game of the year. That means they should go undefeated, right? Because they decimated the Fresno State Bulldogs as 7 ½ point favorites 51 to 34.

9. Ohio State – – Facing a 22 point spread, the Buckeyes bounced back from the late fourth quarter loss to USC last week and throttled Toledo 30 to 0.

10. Cincinnati – – Cincinnati looked very impressive against Oregon State on the road this past Saturday when beating the Beavers by 10 points, 28 to 18. The Bearcats are now in the discussion for BCS consideration.

11. TCU – – The BetUS sportsbook didn’t offer odds on the TCU vs. Texas State game. Not that it mattered. Texas Christian spanked Texas State 56 to 21.

12. Miami FL – – Miami was thumped in 2008 by Georgia Tech. They turned the tables on that rival this past Thursday by taking down the Yellow Jackets 33 to 17 for a +12 cover ATS.

13. Virginia Tech – – It took a last second touchdown for the Hokies to beat Nebraska. Because they were 5 ½ point favorites, VA Tech didn’t really impress anybody, but a victory against a ranked team is a victory against a ranked team.

14. Oklahoma – – Tulsa was supposed to challenge Oklahoma. It didn’t happen as the Sooners’ D shut down Tulsa and Oklahoma won 45 to 0, easily covering the 18 point betting spread.

15. USC – – USC does this every year. Now, after they go through the rest of the year covering spreads and winning games, their fans are going to clamor that they belong in the BCS Championship game. Unless Washington goes undefeated the rest of the year, forget it. This team doesn’t deserve to play in the championship after that 16 to 13 loss to the Huskies.

16. Houston – – Houston had the week off but their game against Texas Tech next week should be some scoring fest. Football gamblers should be thinking about betting the over in that one.

17. Georgia – – The Bulldogs were favored by only 2 points on the road against Arkansas. No problem for the Bulldogs who beat Arkansas 52 to 41.

18. Kansas – – Kansas covered the betting spread again when taking down the Duke Blue Devils 44 to 16. They only covered the spread by 4 ½ points, but with their ability to score, the Jayhawks should be considered a contender in every game they play.

19. Michigan – – No letdown for the Wolverines who covered a 24 point spread by beating Eastern Michigan 45 to 17.

20. Nebraska – – Nebraska remains in the Top 25 because they should have won that game against VA Tech. It was on the road and it was against a very good team. Bo Pellini has these guys playing with heart.

21. Auburn – – The Tigers were favored by 6 ½ over West Virginia. All they did was score 41 points and hold the Mountaineers to 30. Auburn could be the surprise team in the SEC this year.

22. Iowa – – They didn’t cover in Week 1 and dropped out of the rankings. Then, in Week 2, they beat up on Iowa State, covered the spread, and looked great. Now, in Week 3, they look even better beating an Arizona Wildcats team with a lot of experience at home. The spread was 4 points. They beat the ‘Cats 27 to 17.

23. BYU – – Can anybody argue with this? They lost to Florida State 54 to 28. I mean, come on. FSU won by +34 ½ points ATS.

24. Florida State – – And FSU comes in after BYU. Hey, the Cougars did a good job against Oklahoma. FSU will need to move its way up by playing well against quality opponents. Beating BYU was a start.

25. Washington – – The Huskies have covered in every game this year. They had a shot to beat LSU, but failed, against USC they didn’t let that shot get away from them.
