The Sooners lost Sam Bradford in the season-opening game against BYU to a right shoulder separation, did not know how long he would be out for. Bob Stoops was not about to take any unnecessary chances, even though Bradford could conceivably play Saturday.

“We’re going to wait until he’s comfortable with it,” said Stoops. “Once we know, then we’ll say something. We’ll see when that is. I’m not going to even speculate on what that will be.” He said his understanding is that the injury will put a player out for two to four weeks. Bradford is not the only All-American sidelined for the Sooners. Jermaine Gresham, the tight end, is out for the year as well.

Landry Jones, a freshman, has had to step in for Bradford, and he got himself a workout last weekend, throwing for 286 yards and three scores against Idaho State. That was also a good opportunity for the Sooners to get their frustrations out after the loss to BYU, as they outgained the Bengals 564-44 in the 64-0 victory. That was the sixth time in the last eight games that Oklahoma has topped the 60-mark in a game.

Tulsa also knows how to gratuitously pile on points. In their last three games, going back to the 45-13 GMAC Bowl win over Ball State, they have now outscored their last three foes 126-36. GJ Kinne, the Texas transfer who took over for David Johnson at quarterback, has fit in well with the system thus far, completing 37 of 55 for 521 yards and five TD’s.

Sure, he’s got weapons, and Tulsa has the ability to score points, but Kinne has one more college start than Jones, who was one of the five most highly-recruited high school QB’s in the country when he came to Norman a couple of year ago. He’s now had two weeks and one game to take snaps with the first-team offense. They will turn additional attention to the running game, where they have two back – Chris Brown and DeMarco Murray – who ran for over 1000 yards last year. Oklahoma still has the capacity to stop the run and rush the passer with what may be the nations; best defensive line. Remember, they allowed high-powered BYU only 14 points.

Let’s also not forget that a redshirt freshman by the name of Sam Bradford was at the helm two years ago, almost to the day, when Oklahoma rolled over Tulsa 62-21, as the Golden Hurricane was on its way to winning ten games, including a GMAC Bowl rout of Bowling Green. In that game, the Sooners did just what they will do here – take advantage of their tremendous edges at the line of scrimmage, and in depth of talent.

They will also run it up if they get a chance, just to make a statement that all’s well, even without Bradford. Let’s lay the points with Oklahoma, the 17.5-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
