NCAA Football Power Rankings – Top 25 Teams in the Country

The game that everyone was talking about, USC versus Ohio State, did not disappoint. Both teams showed that they have what it takes to go all the way to the BCS Championship. Unfortunately, Ohio State’s road just got much tougher.

The interesting thing is that the quarterback hyped to no end in the game, Terrelle Pryor, couldn’t step it up enough to bring Ohio Sate the victory while the team led by the true freshman, USC, did enough to win.

Both teams are deserving of a huge pat on the back and both teams should be looked at by college football betting fans in the future as both, because of their quarterback play, have the potential to improve as the year goes on.

Ohio State moves up for their effort while Notre Dame drops out of the Top 25 for failing to hold a lead against Michigan and another true freshman quarterback in Matt Forcier. BYU continues to impress and move up the board after another strong showing.

Florida remains on top and Texas looks like a team to beat as well.

Let’s take a look at this weeks NCAAF Power Rankings.

NCAAF Power Rankings:

Florida – – The game against Tennessee this Saturday is going to be tougher than expected but Tim Tebow scoring 5 touchdowns against Troy had to impress bettors. If Florida can beat Tennessee and then LSU three weeks from now, then a march to the SEC Championship game is assured.

USC – – Yes, they were favorites, but Ohio State was fired up to play against this team. Matt Barkley, USC’s freshman quarterback, did enough to get his team the victory in a hostile environment. Is he ready for prime-time? He wasn’t until that drive on Saturday, but after bringing his team all the way back, it appears he is.

Texas – – They started slow on Saturday, but finished up impressively by beating Wyoming 41 to 10. Texas is a solid, solid team and now, because of Oklahoma State’s loss, the top team to beat in the Big 12.

Alabama – – They dominated Florida International and showed the rest of the SEC that it wasn’t all about Florida this year. A 40 to 14 victory is what I call sending a message.

Mississippi – – The Rebels had a week off, but shouldn’t be penalized because of it. So, they keep their Top 5 ranking.

Penn State – – The offensive line isn’t perfect yet, but they are 2 and 0 and did a good job defensively versus Syracuse this past Saturday.

LSU – – Vanderbilt always plays LSU tough. The Fighting Tigers couldn’t cover the spread, but they did beat the Commodores at home. That’s two somewhat tough games in a row for LSU who might be a force in the SEC later on this fall.

Virginia Tech – – The bounce back against Marshall was nice as VA Tech put up 52 points and showed they this year they are going to be much more than just a defensive team in 2009.

Ohio State – – Terrelle Pryor, the OSU offense and the OSU defense, all did very well this past Saturday against USC. Still, they couldn’t quite close the deal which is something that they will have to work on with both Michigan and Penn State being tough this year.

BYU – – The Cougars absolutely crushed Tulane on the road this past Saturday. They beat a team they were favored by 21 points over by 53 points. That’s impressive. Their defense is solid. With an offensive line that’s gelling quickly, this team will be tough the entire season.

California – – Cal was tied after a quarter with Eastern Washington then came 17 points in the second quarter and the rout was on.

Boise State – – The Broncos followed up the Oregon incident by blanking Miami of Ohio 48 to 0. With BYU at #10, there are two BCS busters in the top 15 already in 2009.

Oklahoma State – – I should probably drop them out of the Top 25 after that awful performance at home against the Houston Cougars. Oklahoma State rested on their laurels, there’s no other way to say it, and it cost them. All they can do now is hope that they run the table and beat Texas in the Big 12 Championship game.

Georgia Tech – – Yes, they barely beat Clemson at home, but Clemson isn’t a bad team and Georgia Tech is still feeling things out. It was a very impressive victory because they beat the Tigers after only four practice days.

Utah – – That was a tough game against San Jose State as Utah outscored the Spartans by 10 points in the fourth quarter and won by only 10 points. There are definitely some chinks in the armor.

Georgia – – What figured to be a defensive struggle turned out to be one of the highest scoring games of weekend. Georgia came out on top, 41 to 37, but it wasn’t easy.

North Carolina – – They only beat Connecticut by 2 points, but the Huskies are tough at home and NC did score all 12 of their points in the final quarter showing heart and determination

Oklahoma – – The Sooners bounced back big time against Idaho State. Yes, it was Idaho State but given the fact that BYU might really be that good, the Sooners deserve to get back into the Top 20.

Michigan – – The Wolverines are back. I’d put them higher than this if they didn’t beat a team that historically doesn’t do well in their house. Hey, Michigan has plenty of chances this year to get higher in the rankings, and, let’s be honest, Notre Dame gave that game away.

Nebraska – – Coach Bo Pellini calling his defense “soft” obviously helped as beating a senior laden team like Arkansas State 38 to 9 is hard to do.

Miami (FL) – – The victory against the Florida State Seminoles was impressive. Beating Georgia Tech this Thursday would signal that the Hurricanes are indeed back.

Kansas – – Let’s not kid ourselves. Going into UTEP and beating the Miners was a big deal for this team as they had been awful against non-conference opponents in recent years. They also covered the spread which is what their betting backers really care about.

TCU – – Here’s another BCS buster for you. The Horned Frogs went into Virginia, an ACC team, and beat them up big time, 30 to 14, in their first game of the 2009 College Football Season.

UCLA – – Impressive? Absolutely! Tennessee would be difficult for the best teams in the country to play, much less the UCLA Bruins. They beat a team with a ton of talent and one who had visions of a creating waves in the top conference in college football.

South Carolina – – The Gamecocks make the top 25 off of a loss because they didn’t give up when battling Georgia on the road this past Saturday.
