Saturday, September 12th

Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA – 7:00 PM ET

Line: LSU -14 ½ (44 ½)

Vanderbilt: The Week That Was

Vanderbilt is a program that is turning it around and that wasn’t any more evident than in their 45-0 win over Western Carolina. Clearly, Western Carolina isn’t exactly a litmus test for how BCS-ready your program is but for Vanderbilt, playing perfect against a bad team is a good start.

The main message against Western Carolina was that last year wasn’t a fluke and that they are not going back into the SEC basement. This week against LSU will obviously be a much tougher test but the point is clear: Vandy is not a simple ‘W’ for all the teams in the SEC trying to make some ground.

LSU: The Week That Was

The LSU Tigers didn’t make it pretty, but they got the job done with a 31-23 victory over Washington in the opener. Give the Tigers some credit: it was the longest road trip in school history and Washington played with a lot of pep in the opening game of the Steve Sarkisian era.

One lingering concern is that the Tigers still were not able to generate any pressure on the quarterback, which is really what allowed Jake Locker and the Huskies to move the ball up and down the field. It could be the fact that the Tigers were spent because of the long road trip and playing on the West Coast with a 10:30 PM ET start, but either way, that has to get fixed quickly.

LSU’s offense did just enough but they’ll have to get all-SEC weapons Charles Scott and Brandon LaFell more involved this week.

The Week That Is:

Vandy did a good job last week but their task stiffens exponentially this week. LSU is back at home now and they are a much tougher team in Death Valley than they are on the road.

You won’t find many people that will tell you that LSU will win but the college football betting world are on the fence as to who will cover. Laying 15 points seems like too much with the Tigers given their performance last week and given that Vandy looks like a decent squad.

Even so, LSU has the better weapons. Their pass rush will show up this week and the offense will get rolling with Scott and Keiland Williams. Defensive coordinator John Chavis had success dominating Vandy when he was at Tennessee and look for him to carry it over to LSU.

At home, with Florida upcoming, the Tigers can’t afford to lose any focus whatsoever.

Pick: Tigers -14.5
