Two of college football’s more underrated teams will take the field Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, Arkansas, when the Arkansas Razorbacks host the Mississippi State Bulldogs in an SEC West clash.

The Arkansas Razorbacks clinched a postseason berth for the first time in two years last Saturday, and will now look to win another game to improve their standing with bowl committees. They are led by one of the great offensive minds in all of ncaa football, Bobby Petrino.

Petrino in his second year at Arkansas, has them as one of the top ranked offenses in college football, as they’re currently ranked 8th in the nation, scoring 37 points per game. Their high-powered attack is led by sophomore quarterback Ryan Mallett. On the year, he is making a strong case for All-SEC, as he has thrown for 2885 yards, which is currently ranked 6th in ncaa football. He also has the highest per yardage per completion, throwing for 9.8 yards per pass. His two top receivers, Greg Childs and Jarius Wright have combined for close to 70 catches, and nine touchdowns on the year.

Defensively the Razorbacks have struggled this year, and may have problems against Mississippi State’s offensive attack. On the season, they are 97th in college football in total yards allowed, and their 117th ranked passing defense is one of college football’s worst. Simply put, this group will need a better performance Saturday afternoon.

While Arkansas likes to put the ball in the air, Mississippi State much prefers to get their yards on the ground. Senior Anthony Dixon has rushed for 1082 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season, and could be in line for not only All-SEC honors, but likely All-American honors as well. Quarterback Tyson Lee has thrown for just 1300 yards on the season, but also provides an excellent running threat out of the backfield.

On defense, the most important number to know regarding the Bulldogs, is their pass defense, which is ranked 42nd in ncaa football. They will have their hands full with Mallett and company Saturday afternoon.

This one is really tough to predict. We know that Arkansas is going to score points, that’s a fact. But can Mississippi State do enough to slow them down? I think so.

While I expect Arkansas to win this game, expect their offensive effectiveness to be limited by Mississippi State’s clock consuming running game. As long as the Bulldogs can consistently put points on the board, they should do enough to keep this one close, in this week’s BetUS.com college football betting odds. Take the Bulldogs to cover this week’s spread.
